Tell me about hinderer knives.

In my research for Sebenzas i came acroos Hinderer knives. I got a little over 400 to spend. Is one a better investment over the other?

Two totally different knives. I own multiples of both but my two favorites are the small CRK Inkosi and the 3" XM-18 flipper.

The CRK is a high precision knife that handles most any normal task just fine. It's a great slicer and would be perfect for most folks as an EDC.

I have to say the 3" Hinderer has a better in hand feel. It's the knife I carry when I'm working outside. Easy to open and use with gloves on. Cleaning is a snap, I can just rinse it off and dry it with compressed air.

The detent on the newer Hinderers is excellent, something that couldn't be said on the older versions. All of mine are great flippers, they do require a little break in.

I'd look at getting an Olamic Wayfarer 247. M390 steel, great build quality, unmatched warranty, and you can send the knife back to the company for modifications if you want. I think they do anodizing and other basic stuff for free. It'd be a disservice if Olamic wasn't mentioned in the $400 range considering what they offer both in the knife itself and future customer service if wanted/needed. If something isn't right there's no question at all that they'll make it right. Eugene is absolutely one of the best in the business. And I'd consider contacting him for a knife. He can go over what all they can do to the basic version and for what prices. You'd be amazed (I was) at what all they'll do to add custom touches and for the price they charge and their turnaround time for producing what you ask for. No need to go to a dealer unless they have a specific knife that hits your fancy.

Talk about a company that's about to get super popular if they keep doing what they've been doing for the past couple of years.

Dang now that is a beauty! Decisions decisions. I just called multiple places and no one near me carries one. If Im dropping this kind of money I need to handle it first. The knife I choose is going to be my lifetime carry knife.

Then get a Large Inkosi and don't look back.

A good retailer understands that and will let you buy one and if it doesn't work for you will let you exchange it. Most places won't charge much if anything but make sure you look at the return policy. Some places charge a 10% restocking fee. I think bladehq and knifeworks has a good selection and I don't believe either of those places look down too much on returning a knife you don't like. I could be wrong.

Too late I just pulled the trigger on the 247!

Nice. If you want something modified just go to their website and fill out the form saying what you want done. He'll call or email you back in a day or two to discuss things with you. He's a really nice down to earth guy.

Also, it'd be cool if once you get it you could show some pictures off. Definitely not enough representation of some really good looking knives. I'm waiting fora one off myself.

The 24/7 is a real nice edc, Congrats! When you get the pouch the knife comes in, behind the foam backing you will find the pivot tool. Enjoy

So I took a chance on another XM-18 with no real hope that it would flip but low and behold it flips fine. Even without having to practice their special way to do it and 0 wrist action. It came slightly used so I'm not sure if the previous guy tuned it or if it's a generational thing but it actually flips. Holy Cow, only took 4 or 5 XMs and a couple of Eklipses to find one that worked right..

This thread motivated me to go get my 24/7 out of the safe and carry it today. The Olamic might see more future pocket time.

I have one with sculpted scales and black pvd stonewashed blade in elmax. It came absolutely shaving sharp.

The 24/7 is a real nice knife. It rides great in pocket and has a thin profile. The curved handle fits well in hand and the geometry between blade tang and lock bar is spot on. I prefer larger folders but the 24/7 fits the bill when I want to get a lot of cutting edge in a smaller package.

How well does it hold up to every day cutting, slicing and possible scraping and minor digging into wood?

I think their actual Wayfarers have blades a little over 4"
