Tell me what you love/hate about the techno

Pic comparison request: Techno, Chaparral, and Sage2. Looking to see them with blades open and closed, and handle thicknesses.

Thanks in advance!

Top to bottom - Sage 2, Native 5 Fluted Ti, Chaparral Ti, Techno.

I was between the Techno and Sage 2. Wanted a frame lock. Went with Techno for the steel, stonewashed finish, and just to diversify. Have a Sage 1, which IMO is the best of the Sage's and wanted a different size/shape blade. But really, can't go wrong with any of these options.

Ramzar, those are great pics! You always seem to come thru when we need to compare knives.

Other than width, I'm surprised how close in size the chaparral is to the beefy Techno.

I love my Techno. The thick stock makes me feel less guilty about using it for prying. Even though it's a thick stock, the FFG makes it a good slicer nonetheless. CTS-XHP is such a wonderful steel. When I'm in public, I don't have to watch out for people looking at me funny for pulling out a Techno vs a Umnumzaan. The fit and finish on it is as good as any CRK and the action is up to par as well. Techno is truly a knife that you have to carry and use to appreciate.

Great pics! Also show well how much edge the Techno has in that little compact package.

One small niggle is that the relief cut for the frame lock should (imho) have been on the inside of the scale (like on the proto) since it sometimes snags when I'm pulling it out of my watch pocket.

Love the techno! It is a tank and finds it way into my pocket quite often. The steel holds a very good edge for a long time. It's small but I can still get four fingers more like 3.5 with that medium to large hands. I do agree it is always best to handle it first if possible... If you can't touch it first it's worth the gamble in my opinion.

likes: design, size, quality
dislikes: blade thickness, not having a pointy tip, frame lock

I like it enough to carry it but usually carry it with something else to make up for its deficiencies

What you may not appreciate about the techno is that although the stock is thick, the edge is ground thin. So although it is not completely optimized for edc slicing tasks, I think it is a very good compromise of good slicing ability, but still being serviceable for harder tasks if necessary (especially where you might want to put significant thumb pressure on the blade spine).

I really like it, but not everyone likes the feel in hand. Ergonomics are very subjective. I'm not a fan for the UKPK / caly 3 for instance, but I do like the chaparral (a little smaller) and the caly 3.5 (a little bigger).

I love it. Such a thick little blade. Doesn't feel too small in the hand. Not the 100% best cutter on the planet, but makes a great EDC that you can beat the crap out of.

The techno is my favorite spyderco knife. I had reservations about the blade thickness like others but it surprised me. For slicing cardboard, it's terrific. I would like something to prevent lockbar over travel because it's pretty easy to overextend compared with some other knives I've owned. I dislike the delica because of the sharp corners and the way the blade sticks out. The Sage 2 was nice but just didn't do it for me like the techno does. It feels like you could use it hard and it would take it but it excels with EDC tasks because it's so smooth. The pocket clip does make it easy to take out the knife and quickly put it back but I would like a tad bit more retention. It feels right, for me.

The negatives would be that for food prep and delicate slice work it won't do as great a job as some others.

I find the Techno too small. I would like to see a larger version, length overall more in the 7" to 8" range.

Too thick for a knife so short...

I also thought that but it is ground thin and does infact slice pretty darn well for a blade of this length.

I added a different back-spacer to increase the subtlety of pocket carry and de-humped mine somewhat purely based on my personal preference. That said this has a terrific blade to handle ratio and comes in a small, easy to carry package with my preferred deep-carry wire pocket clip. All that adds up to a cracking little EDC for me.
