Tell me what you love/hate about the techno

Sorry for going a bit off-topic, but figured I'd throw this out there for a heads-up:

At the state level, California allows folders to be clipped to your pocket and does not restrict blade length. However, some counties, including LA, restrict unconcealed knives ("In plain view"; that means clipped to your pocket or otherwise showing on your person) to under 3 inches. That also means that you may carry a folding knife of 3" in length or more, as long as it is completely concealed and closed. As an example, carrying the Techno clipped to your pocket within LA county would be legal.

I think the Techno would be legal to carry taped to my forehead in LA because the blade is less then 3" and it is not a fixed blade.

Yep, that's the "plain view" part. Doesn't matter if it's clipped to a pocket or balanced on your noggin. Of course, you'd wanna make sure it's closed, otherwise you're in violation of state law. ;)

I somewhat like the design but i hate its thickish grind in such a short bladed knife, i also somewhat stay away from framelocks as they give a false feel of bank vault, and finally its flimsy fugly wire clip is extremely misplaced on such a stout and robust knife, i dont get it.

Do you have one? Mine is ground pretty thin and cuts very well (even better now with an even thinner convex grind).

The lock up is great and I haven't had any issues with the clip (I would have preferred a solid titanium low rider clip though)

I like the design, it is a cute yet stout knife. But the ergos are definetely not for me. that's why i sold it. I don't know why the dislike with the blue backspacer, I think it's a match with the tumbled finish titanium scales.

Mine is a dark blue, almost navy in color.....I wish it was bright blue like in the pic....

I'd guess it's just the lighting. Mine also leans toward a darker blue in most light. I think the blue G10 is actually quite bright (like that of the Sage 3); it's just that when sandwiched between the dark scales, some of the "pop" is lost. Still, I think blue is the best choice. I'd like an orange spacer, but I think that's just because I want any color that wasn't factory. I guarantee if it was orange, I'd want blue! :p

Allyourblood is right. It is just the lighting mostly it is dark blue without proper lighting... and he got a point there about wanting the non-factory colors :p

Ramzar, another comparison pic challenge (request) ;)

Techno vs strider pt cc vs DPx heat

Thanks in advance!

Personally I'd have no use for a 4.5mm thick blade on any folder, much less on one with a 2.5" blade. That, plus it being wrong handed, a framelock, and not having a 50/50 choil, make the Techno one Spyderco I can't see myself ever purchasing. For a knife about that size, the CF Chaparral would be my choice. Beautifully thin 2mm thick blade, fully ambi, has a 50/50 choil and doesn't wear its insides on the outside. Seriously though, the saying "different strokes for different folks" most definitely applies to knives. Am sure there are those who dearly love the Techno can can't see themselves carrying a thin bladed knife.
+1
I cannot say that I hate the knife, but certainly it is not my cup of tea for all reasons above, except "wrong hand", but in addition I do not like finish.

i am saving up for the Techno 2 now that i've tasted what the knife is about. an ebayer sent me a very similar Mouse-inspired model, apparently not made by Taichung factory. anywho what i don't like about my unit would apply to the newer model too i guess. it's the cutout of the frame lock. people on youtube complained that the cutout would catch on the brim (inner stitchings) of your jeans pants pocket when you pull out the knife from its clipped location. That is, if the clip and the lock cutout are on the same side; that's true if you're a righty and carry the knife in your right pants pocket.

i fixed the issue by filling in hot glue in the cutout. Now the handle outside is all flush and smooth, with the lock cutout being eliminated, covered with hot glue. The result looks good, inconspicuous, harmonious, and the part is not going anywhere because some hot glue went thru the frame lock hole and formed a clot plug on the opposite side of the handle/lock.

it's a harmless mod which i documented with more pics/details on another forum. just wanted to mention it here, if nobody else has ever done it before. just saying, if shoppers are wary or reluctant because of the criticized cutout<>brim interaction, then they shouldn't be. while the original issue is real and annoying, the fix (the mod) is fast, harmless, beautiful, and effective.

For an improved experience and enjoyment of your Techno!

( It raises the question though why the cutout couldn't be placed on the inside of the handle. Other frame lock knives have the cutout on the inside, don't they? o_O )
