Terror War Declared on US

1945 - 2001...56 years...maybe it is time for another knock down drag out???

I certainly hope not, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Only time will tell.
 
Just some news outa Minnesota. The IDS building in Minneapolis has been closed, the Mall of America has been closed, and the U of M campus has been closed.

Prayers and condolences once again to all those affected by this horrible tragedy.
 
How much of this has everybody heard so far? I've been watching Fox News since this first happened, and they're telling alot if any of you are searching for info.

I find this totally unbelievable. A few hours ago I watched the World Trade Center collapse live, with an estimated death toll of 10,000. The Pentagon is on fire and can't yet be put out, and now LOTS of politicians are talking openly about a congressional declaration of war, something that hasn't happened since WWII. I told afew friends earlier that this will start a war, and I definitely think it will. I don't think any of us know what to feel about that, but I honestly think this must be punished.

Rusty: there's another Yamamoto quote this has reminded me of..."I fear that all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible rage". He was right then, and he may still be right.
 
It is sad to say that but something has to be done NOW! We need to get rid of these crazy people once and for all! Do what ever it takes!
 
I and my friends have followed this disgusting attack from the first TV-report. We all feel deeply for all the victims and their families.
We also hope that the one's responsible for this terrible act of terror will get the right punishment. We also hope that our countries won't be dragged to the bottom, economically, by this.

I'm not a religous man but if there is a time to say it,it is now. May the Gods be with us.

Around here schools and businesses are still open, at least things were when I got out of class at 11:00am. Everybody is in shock.

Cooler heads need to prevail here to ensure we get the right folks. Despite the fact that this despicable act appears to be the result of an arabic terrorist organization, let us all remember that it was not the act of a people or ethnicity. <i>It was the act of a <B>terrorist</B> organization.</i>

We are all in shock for America and our American friends -- and ourselves. In a sense we are all Americans now, if we are democrats at all. The word revolution is over-used, but this will surely change all manner of things, politically, militarily, in peoples' evaluation of life and risk and in their personal beliefs. The whole kalaidescope has been given a huge twist.
 
I have been following this story constantly since it happened. I happened to be watching the today show when it occurred and watched in horror and complete disbelief as the second plane crashed into the tower. I watched the legions of brave firefighters walking down the street to help the trapped and wounded. And I watched as the 1st tower came down on those very same firefighters. I have seldom been moved to tears by events on the news in my lifetime, but as I thought about all of those inside, thier families and those of the firefighters, and as I wathced my 20 mo old daughter laughing and playing a few feet away--oblivious to the horror that was introduced to her country and to the world she will inherit--I could not hold back...

I believe that this will mark a complete shift in the social atmosphere of America and a change in how we view our society. The sense of safety, of isolationism, and innocense---if it had not been lost in Oklahoma City, it is now gone---at least for me.

I am so damned angry at those who did this, and to those who had any part in allowing it to happen, yet I realize that anger and hatred and FEAR are exactly what these animals want us to feel. However, I can't help it. This cannot go unpunished. It is vitally important to how the world(and its terrorists)views us, as well as how we view ourselves that this threat be eliminated. If not eliminated, then mercilessly attacked, pursued, and harrassed into functional extinction. If black OPs are the only way it can be done, then send them in. Strike terror into the countries and governments that harbor men like bin laden (Afghanistan), and into the hearts of the terrorists themselves. The attitude that we cannot afford to provoke these terrorists is foolish, they have proven that our existence alone is enough. BUT ABOVE ALL, PREPARE OUR CITIES, AIRPORTS, AND COUNTRY AS A WHOLE, AS MUCH AS CAN BE DONE, TO AVOID INCIDENTS SUCH AS THIS. TO DO ANY LESS IS TO ALLOW OUR PEOPLE TO DIE.

My thoughts and prayers go out to any and all affected by this, including those of you, who like myself, feel sick and depressed. I don't know how to be optimistic about the world I will leave to my daughter. God help us all.

I agree fully, Rob, and as stated earlier if I were president bombs would be falling right now in Afghanistan. We have a good handle on who the terrorists are and where they are holed up. I think we should go after them right now. You know the old saying, "an ounce of prevention......"
 
Here in Miami all of downtown and all federal buildings are closed. My mother came home hysterical since my brother had been sent to NY by his company to learn a new work-related program. He was staying in the Hilton there in Manhattan...the Hilton which advertises being "Next door to the World Trade Center" Luckily he and his buddies were on their way to their seminar when it went down and evacuated safely across one of the bridges and are staying in the hotel rooms of people from the same company from other states. They will be finding ANY sort of transportation (other than air) to leave asap back to Atlanta tomorrow. But for several hours here it was quite alot of panic to hear from him and be sure of his safety. I truly believe that it was the smoke being sent up and the prayers of you my fellow forumites that helped. Thank you.

The airliner that went down in Pennsylvania was reportedly headed for Camp David, the president's personal vacation spot. They have stated that it was not shot down by US fighters. I hope to believe that the aircrew that was aboard that plane when it was hijacked learned of its ultimate destination and decided to bring the plane down on their own with minimal loss of life instead of its tragic possible destination.
 
QM, we may find out what happened or we may not but I'm sure any of those pilots would have downed the plane rather than comply with terrorist mission requirements.
 
I live about 30 minutes north of DC. All government offices were closed. Many state, county and private offices and businesses closed also. Here is the current status. Four planes were hijacked. Passengers on all planes. First two hit the World Trade Center. Third plane hit the Pentagon. Fourth plane went down southeast of Pittsburg, Pennselvania, it was suggested that it was headed for Camp David but not confirmed, it was not shot down to the best of my knowledge. Car bomb at the State Department untrue, probably the intense smoke from the Pentagon, the buildings are just across the Potomac River from each other. Find the cowards and blow'em away.
 
All military bases and federal buildings in the US and abroad are in Delta alert, highest alert status. They are buttoned up and locked down. My wife just said that Afganistan is being bombed right know. 6:00 PM EDT. Unknown whos doing bombing.
 
Another in agreement. Boys, I don't know if they will get the messages right away but I think it's time to let the folks in Washington know that it is time for war and not a bunch of song and dance routines like usual. It's time to make a stand and a strong move.

write your congressman,senator,and governor and let them know that if the people in office don't listen to the people of the of the country, that they will not hold that office for long.

Uncle Bill, I've got to agree with you. This is only (to my knowledge) the 3rd time since the Revolutionary war that US citizens on American soil have been attacked by a foreign entity. This isn't just a "terrorist strike", it's an act of war.

It does look like we've already bombed Afghanistan, and I hope we have. Their government may not have been directly involved, but they have allowed Bin Laddin and others to hide from justice before, and they should be made an example for other anti-western nations.

Terrorists have traditionally hidden behind the fact that it's hard to find them as individuals, and that they will be protected by rogue governments. Maybe we as a nation should give these rogue governments reason not to harbour and support terrorists.

There are very rarely reasons why a nation should go to war, but IMO, this is one of them. I hate it and I think it's a scary situation, but we have to defend ourselves, and reciprocity is sometimes justified.
