Terror War Declared on US

I've got a half dozen calls today from forumites who feel pretty much as I do and I'm seeing stuff on TV which seems to indicate that even some folks in Washington feel like we do. It's time.

Although right now putting up UBDOTDs is way far back in my mind and not a priority item the last forumite who called urged me to do something to demonstrate that we on this forum would not allow terrorists to destroy or even put a dent in our way of life. And he reminded me this is a terrorist goal -- to disrupt, to destroy, frighten, intimidate. Of course, he's right and I'm tring to figure out what to do about it. I'm on my first bottle of Heineken for the day -- early but I need it -- but I'm thinking of starting an anti-terrorist sale tomorrow.

Stay tuned. Thanks for calls, email and advice. Any suggestions or advice on how we can best demonstrate that terrorists can't get the best of us welcome.

Smoke going up for all those who lost their lives, are injured, fearful, and families -- and smoke goes up for us and the good old USA!

Uncle and everyone,

Amen to what you said. The desired result of every terrorist act is to cause confusion, fear, and disorder. The best that we could do is to go on, do a thourgh investigation and then bag the bastards in a surgical military operation... bringing them back for a fair trial before hanging them (publically)...

My first reaction is to pick up a rifle and go somewhere to get retrobution. However, the new Christian in me says that judging and punishment are not my job... God knows who did this and will settle debts one way or another...

Let Peace and Love guide us through the coming days. I'll say a prayer for all the innocents who died in the attacks, and subsequently trying to save lives in the aftermath. It is a Black Day...

Thanks, Alan. Just got a call from Ivan Campos in Brazil espressing shock, condolences and concern. He urged me to "go on doing business as usual."

Thanks to Ivan for consideration. He's one of he good guys.

I find it odd that there was no use of chemical, biological, or nuclear agents at any point during the day.

I was driving to school this morning, and shortly before I got there the DJ made a comment about some airplane crashing into the world trade center. After my first class I headed over to the student union and everyone was grouped around the televisions and a girl told me that a plane had also crashed into the Pentagon.

Just remember, it could have been much, much worse. People I've heard from said that the World Trade Center has a comparitively small number of people inside of it until about 10:00 - 10:30, and the planes were all less than half full. Also, the aforementioned lack of further action.

I don't know what's going to happen, but I'm waiting for President Bush's announcement this evening. I don't think that nearly enough is going to be done in response.

BTW, my sister lives in New York, she said that she saw one of the towers collapse out of her office window!

My simpathies to anyone who had anyone in any of those areas. It didn't really hit me until I was driving home and the DJ was giving phone numbers to call if you had any inquiries about family members who were flying.

Actually, a chemical/biological attack would take much more sophistication than what actually happened. This was a relatively easy attack to pull off. All you needed was four trained pilots and the small number of individuals to take each plane.

A chem/bio attack would involve advanced disperal deployment methods, etc...

We haven't seen the last of this I think. Everyone should be in Condition Red when in urban areas and large groupings of people. It makes me kind of comfortable now living out here with the buffalo...

I am so messed up inside today that I don't think I can express how I feel. Part of me wants to see wings of B-52s headed East with full bomb bays and pylons. At the same time I know in my heart that every city in the world if full of innocents no matter what country they are in, what color they are or what their religion is. Innocents are going to die by the tens of thousands in the coming years as the barbarians bring down civilization like they have countless times before. I want to be nice and say that we must carefuly hunt down each terrorist one at a time and bring them to justice, but I believe that that is to play their game. I am coming to the realization that we are in a war of extinction, and if we don't fight with every bit of will and cunning we have our civilization is doomed. I say, state our resolve, call on the world to join us or to stand and defy us and then Jihad, holy war to the death of either civilization or it's ememies.

The attack on Kabul Afghanistan was made by the northern forces in Afghanistan that the taliban haven't conquered and not by US forces.

Bro I don't think it was in too many of our hearts today for business as usual.:(
I know it wasn't in mine.
I have been glued in front of the tv today, totally out of character for me, but then I have a TV right by my computer as well so I've been following the threads as usual.
But tomorrow's another day and we shouldn't let any terrorist act stop us from going about our daily business.
In war one must pick up and continue on or the battle is already
lost.

I agree that the perpetrators of this heinous act must be brought forth to pay for them.
On the other hand let's not kill a whole nation for the acts of a few.
Someone on another forum said the poor Afghanistan farmer working to scrape a living from the land could care less about the acts of their government and is just trying to survive and I believe that's probably true.
Probably much as the Maoists are felt about in Nepal I would
surmise.
The average folk all over the world just want to be left alone to survive the best way they can.

The cowards that done this today and those that sent them to do their horrendous dirty work need to die slowly and in much pain, not swiftly to be made martyrs of by those who are sympathetic to their cause, but I realize in today's climate that that's not the way it will be done.
And when the retribution is started it will probably out of neccesity be a scorched earth policy to stop any further acts from other terrorists the world over.
Most countries no longer fear the might of the US and our might and right must be upheld at any cost in order for something like todays violence to not happen again.......

Gentlemen,

I grew up in NYC, and I used to commute through the World Trade Center every day on the way to my job in the secrurities market. It is hard for me to accept that the center is gone, that everyone there has been killed or injured, that some of my friends may have been killed or injured.

By any measure I am a moderate and reasonable person. I have spent most of today in shock, and by tommorrow I would sincerely support any action taken by the US and its military to send a clear and painful message to any terrorist, or, would be terrorist, and all states willing to harbor them.

I will no longer worry about innocent victims and by-standers, but only about the enemy, and his path to defeat.

It saddens me to think that we are on the verge of WAR. That many thousands have died, and that many many more stand to become casualties.

My sympathies and prayers for Americans on this tragic day. I hope that the terrorists responsible are caught swiftly and receive the punishment that they so richly deserve.

Apparently one report said the hijacked planes were all westbound. If so, this would make sense as they would be carrying a larger amount of fuel, making for a bigger detonation.

I've written and erased several paragraphs. And again. Time to calm down before I try to express my feelings again.

I know Rusty,

I have written quite a few paragtaphs about glass floored self lighting parking lots today, and then have gone back and erased them. I too must think before I write.

Most everything shut down here in Oklahoma. Gov. offices, malls and schools etc.
There isn't much to say here that hasn't already been said. I don't believe that God expects our country to be passive. All through the Bible it talks of things endured by God's people and even battles. Joshua fought the battle of Jerico and in this God knew there would be death. The fact is that this is "One Nation Under God" and I feel He will definately protect our Armed Forces when they take care of business just as Joshua did. I don't feel hate just sorrow and that justice must be done.
Our prayers and thoughts are with everyone involved and our nation as a whole. I think now would also be a good time to pray for all of our leaders. They have some big decisions to make.
Life is short. We had better be ready for eternity.
God Bless!

Shock, anger, dismay, pity, and grief. I've felt all these today and now it's all rather numb. My family and I would like to express our grave concern and sympathy for the people who died today, victims, heroic fireman and policemen, and their grieving families.

I've heard comparisons of today's events to Pearl Harbor, well today will certainly live in all our memories, but Japan and it's Axis allies were clear cut enemies. Who do we fight now? Who do we exact retribution from for this? I'm afraid this is just the tip of events that may spiral out of control worldwide. I hope we find out who did this and I hope we make them pay for it dearly, but I also hope it's not at the cost of more innocent lives or an entire country destroyed by saturation bombing.

I've followed the events today as they unfolded while I was at work, and like most people didn't get much done today. I also followed the forum and was comforted to know that people felt the way I do. I agree that we must continue our lives to the best of our ability without allowing these terrorist actions to stop us.

Thanks everyone, Guy.

I'm shocked by this beyond words. Nothing I can say will fully express how I feel about this.

It is clear to me that any country that KNOWINGLY AND WILLINGLY harbours terrorists such as Osama Bin Laden is just as guilty as the terrorists themselves. Period. This makes Afghanistan fair game for any U.S. retaliation.

I can foresee that the U.S. will NOT stand by and sweep the incident under the rug, like they did with that warship that was bombed a long while ago. I can't speak for the Americans, because I'm Canadian, but if I were the American president, I'd have bombers, warships, carriers and troop transports on the way to Afghanistan on the double with orders to find Osama Bin Laden, eradicate his men and his bases, and bring him back to the U.S. for a very short and speedy trial.

And if Afghanistan is stupid enough to resist the invasion, well, tough luck. It's their fault for hanging onto scum like Osama, and they should be willing to pay the price.

I'm sorry if I sound pretty bloodthirsty, but this tragedy makes me severely pissed off...

I am too pissed off to write anything inciteful or intelligent. I want only to stomp Libya, Palistine, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. back into the stone age! I pray that our leaders will discover a backbone and bring the full force of our great nation to bear on this treacherous act. It will be costly and bloody. (just ask the Russians about Afghanistan) But it must be done! THe Lord can have his vengance and judgement after we're done with them!

God bless the victims, their familys and the victims yet to come.

Now, where is my FN-FAL and my Ang Kohla? It's time to start liftin' scalps!

Hello all. This is the first I've been abvle to get on the computer all day (9:45 p.m. west coast time). I want to wish you all the very best in this time of strife and pain. I took my mom to Cedars Sinai hospital today for eye surgery (which turned out well), and I was glued to the TV all day there. I still can't believe what's happened. America is more vulnerable than I thought. But we are still head and shoulders above the rest. After WWII we've had the power to lay waste to the world, and we haven't. I think we are a truly moral country (or at least we strive to be), and the world should be thankful that it was us who obtained the A-bomb first, and not the Japanese, Nazis or Russians. Maybe I'm rambling here, but I'm gung-ho American, and I believe that we fall on the right side of the struggle. Our good will will win out in the long run and a free world will prevail. God damn those who did this today. Take care all.

Kmark and Jaeger, I totally agree!! I think we need to shut down our borders and do not let in any immergrents! This is sad but it would help keep these crazys out! The best way to punnish these people is to have a public announsment that the terrerists will be releaced to the public at a certain place and time and let the people do what they want with them!!!

Some of you must be quite close to the areas where the diabolical acts were perpetrated. Last night (our time) our cell prayer group came together to pray especially for the American people. May the Lord give strength, courage and consolation.
