Terror War Declared on US

When I saw the tallest buildings in the world in KL Malayasia being evacuated for fear they too would be attacked my very first thoughts were of you and your family and prayers that you and your family were safe from the atrocities that terrorists thrive on.
All of us in this forum know you well and have the greatest respect and fondness for you.
It's not by accident that you are H.I.'s Concience Officer.

There are many Christians that I fear as well knowing that their religious fanaticism is not the true face of that religion.

I just saw some news about Muslim communities being harrassed and I am ashamed of this kind of behavior, just as much as I am ashamed of the rounding up of Japanese Americans during WWII and putting them in concentration camps. This is not the way to do business. A few bad folks in any community does not make the entire community bad.

Greetings Uncle and fellow forumites. I just returned home this afternoon from out of town work in York, PA. I was eating breakfast at the Hampton Inn and watched the second plane hit the trade center.

I echo the sentiment that it is difficult to be a good christian, buddist, or whatever faith is practiced at a time like this. I ache to the very marrow of my bones at not being able to choke to death the cowards who don't have stones enough to go toe to toe with US!

I also agree that we need to find out, and find out fast, who the culprits were, and elimate them with extreme prejudice. We don't need to drag the arabs out of their houses and persecute them--- then we would lower ourselves to the terrorists level. The United states once was wholely feared because of our follow through. We made hard decisions and stuck to it. We didn't take a popular vote on whether or not we should land on Normandy or use the atom bomb. Unlike more recent skirmishes, we didn't ask permission of the UN to finish what we started.

The intestinal fortitude which was so readily apparent to the WWII era Americans and Baby-boomers is almost lost on today's generation. It is my solemn prayer that our great nation pulls together and follows through with the grimness that lies ahead. God grant us the ability to see it through.

Sorry about my rant, but I'm still furious.

Thanks for allowing me to blow off steam.

Mohd: a lot of us are confused and in anguish over our frustrations and doubts.

To me it is rather a matter that the United States has in the past allowed these criminals to manipulate us by hiding behind hostages. We have let them live to harm many others further down the road rather than jeopardize the lives of a handful of innocent hostages in the here and now.

What I am saying is that in the future if Uncle Bill, brother Yvsa, me, or you my brother, were being held hostage, my desire is that the terrorist be terminated rather than permitted to escape. I would hope that the order be given to shoot the terrorist, through me or any of my brothers, if necessary. I cannot speak for Uncle Bill or Yvsa, but would hope they would understand even if they did not agree.

This would not be out of hate but out of love for the rest of my brothers of whatever faith that the threat be ended.

I hope you understand.

Rusty: It's the Onion Field revisited. And I Agree. For those unfamiliar, the same situation occured in California in law enforcement years ago. ( Forgive me if I don't recall details correctly)-- Two officers had contact with a perp who was able to disarm one of them and hold a gun to the cops head. He ordered the other officer to drop his gun or he'd shoot the hostage. The other officer did what he was told. the result? The thug killed both police officers. Lesson? Don't let the terrorist escape. These are not the most trustworthy fellows.

Yvsa, you are right about the Christian community. Many so called Christians are the same as so called Muslims, so called Buddhists or any other faith, they are "Card Carrying" members who don't deserve the name. Their faith serves them; they don't serve their faith. In any faith, community, country or race, there are those who discredit all of the rest of that group. The unfortunate thing being they are usually the most visible members of that group and thus damage all the rest. I believe that this is universal. Let us not hate indiscrimately groups of people, but single out those individuals in those groups for justice.

I can only imagine what Arab-Americans in particular and Muslims in general must be going through right now because the hatred that has fallen out because of this hasn't been limited to them alone. I have heard of incidents against South Asians as well both Muslim and non-Muslim. I have been fortunate so far not to have been hassled although I've gotten my share of dark looks as well as people whom I have known previously as being nice to me having changed in their attitudes towards me since this incident. I share the same grief as other fellow Americans do about this act and at the same time I also feel a great deal of anger and wonder how these people who commit acts like this can call themselves Human Beings. I think the best we all can do is to pull together as "Americans" and not as Irish-American, Italian-American, Indian-American or Pakistani-American, and do our part to help in rebuilding and in helping our Government in retributions to these bigots and hate-mongers. I also think we should extend our support to Arab-Americans and Muslims against the hate and violence against them because if we don't, then the terrorists have already won by dividing us against each other. By collective strength, we can prove to them that we as a nation are strong and nothing they can throw at us will destroy our collective Unity. By the way Mohd, I regard you as an elder brother and could not hate you in any way so do not feel as though you would be hated for your religion. There are bigots like this in every religion who give religion a bad name.

Arvind

Amen.

(Incidentally, the book "The Onion Field" by Joseph Wambaugh, was the non-fiction book which led to his becoming a bestselling fiction author. Your local library may still have it in their stacks.)

I am shocked and horrored by this terrorist attacked. I pray that survivors be found and that no further rescue workers are lost.

Some of the flight recorders have been found: http://www.msnbc.com/news/628707_asp.htm?pne=msn and given to the FBI for investigation. It also talks about the Pentagon.

----------------------------------
WASHINGTON, Sept. 13 — Three black boxes — two from the plane that crashed into the Pentagon and one from the plane that crashed in western Pennsylvania — have been analyzed by the National Transportation Safety Board and given to the FBI, sources told NBC News Friday.
----------------------------------
In a video message to troops and other military personnel, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld commended staff for “how nobly and professionally” they responded to the attack.
But with the United States declaring the attacks an act of war and vowing to respond, he told them that “much, much more will be asked of you in the weeks and months ahead.”
“This is especially true of those who are in the field. We face powerful and terrible enemies — enemies we intend to vanquish,” he added.
A statement posted on the department Web site said: “The Pentagon returns to full operations on Thursday, Sept. 13. All personnel scheduled to work should report for duty.”

They say the US is the great Satan. Now, that they have summoned us, I am sure that hell will be paying them a visit in no time.

I'm for making a strong move very quickly and I hope those in power will do this. The longer we wait the worse it gets.

pakcik bill and fellow forumites

thanks for your kind words - how lucky am i to have very sensible friends like you all - actually i am a bit scared to post in this forums since that incident - i thought i will be rejected from this forums.

we know that few thousands people was killed in those attacks - we still doesn't know who actually responsible of those kind of act even though strong evidence pointing to arab origin muslims. we malaysian muslim are very sad about it - furthemore we were scared that u.s might simply retaliate by dropping tons of bombs or launching missiles to muslim countries such as afghanistan or pakistan or iraq or iran. most of us who wants to go to those countries has already cancelled their flights just for precaution.

most of us now are reluctant to go to west countries just because they scared that they might be harassed or might be attack by any individual or groups that has develope hatred against muslims.

the facts that the attacks on pentagon and n.y wtc has claimed death to thousands of innocent peoples - it also has caused frightening & scary experience in millions of muslims - that their homes or their towns or their countries might be the target of u.s retaliation attacks! we didn't know anything about those attacks by terrorist but we have to face the effect of their brutal act!

thank you again for still accepting mohd ...
