Wow, these will be monsters for sure. Just look at the thickness of those partially assembled knives. Is that a Beavertail shield?
Yes, they sure will be bigguns!!
The beavertail shields are only for the Oregon Knife Collector Club SFO. Too bad, I wouldn't mind having one.... I don't know if Charlie's SFO shield has been finalized or not.
The shield has been finalized! For the Camp Knife, the Cattle Knife, and the Whittler!

They will all have jigged bone - none smooth, and no wood.
(Sorry ~P!)
I don't know who those smooth ones are for! They might be GEC's own run!?
... and somehow much less formidable than I had expected something of this size to be:

When I was in college, I saw one whole giant Chinese flying cockroach in a can of lychees. But I've never seen a whole chicken in a can.

Ah-- I was going by GEC's pictures (smooth white bone!) and their production schedule-- your SFO is listed as jigged bone, but under the #98 TEXAS CAMP KNIFE, there is a Northfield entry for smooth white bone. (This is for the Camp Knife only, not on the Whittler or Cattle Knife.)

Yep, according to their March 10th Production Schedule.
Looks plenty formidable in your photo. The awl is huge! (The owl is tiny!)
Where will these be for sale once finished?
Sounds like your SFO camp knife is a return to the good ol' days of camp knives, Charlie! My only worry is that the BF16 knife might handle my punch needs, giving me cause to look at the whittler instead (I really like this frame). However, I'd like a "Charlie special" - I take it the whittler is only coming from the primary GEC run?
Prepare to inundate r8shell with requests for scrimshaw, porch-dwellers!![]()
I'm having thoughts of smooth bone whittlers bigger than my Case #75 dance through my head. Still, I think I'd be happiest if it were a Chittler (can I even say that?![]()
).
I expected better wordplay! C'mon, it's right there for you! Awl/owl, this is comedy gold! :grumpy:
Your best bet is to check the GEC-affiliated dealers linked off their page, or to check the BF dealer membership list (I personally had a ridiculous time trying to find it just now, so I can't offer you a link at the moment). You can also look at the "Good, Bad & Ugly" forum in the Exchange for reviews or anecdotes about dealers (and other transactions) to get an idea of which ones you might want to consider.
I know of many GEC-affiliated dealers, will a website like Knives ship free offer these? Or is this more along the lines of the forum knives when it comes to distribution?
Oh yeah! That shield is perfect!!
