Texas Camp Knife!

Hooooo boy! I'm really getting excited about the whittler variation. These are going to be right up my alley.

Do we have confirmation that the whittler variety is a true Splitback or will it be a "three spring" Whittler, like the 54W's?

I was dead set on not getting one of these because the size, but... the picture below hooked me.

That is My kind of sweat shop! Sign me up!

Going by the whittler being a split spring, I assume it will be a 2 layer, and the cattle will be a 4 layer?

On a splitback whittler, the main is often thicker than the secondaries. But based on the pics, the clip seems to be of comparable thickness...

I am curious as to how the spacing will be configured to keep the the opposing ends from feeling like there is a significant change from one end to the other. If the main doesn't have any additional thickness, that is.

Just to make sure I am accustomed to carrying a knife of this size, I am going to be carrying a Schrade 25OT until this is released.
:D

I can't lie. I said I wasn't going to try to get in on this knife, but I broke down today. It is larger than I though...lol. That's coming from a guy with an SMF on his belt, as he types this.

Is the whittler going to be slightly more narrow when compared to the camp knife due to the spring design?

I can't handle this! I wasn't interested in the whittler because I assumed it was 3 spring but now it's on my must have list. Damn you GEC!!

For some reason I am having a hard time resisting this one. It's MUCH bigger than I like in a non locking blade, but good lord this thing is tempting! I think the main thing keeping me from jumping on one is the possibility of another smaller scout knife emerging from the forum knife pattern.

No offense ,but never ever can buy one of these SFO,s even when early reservations are allowed. Its like 5 are available then tough luck. Starting to wonder if this is just some sales gimmick but then again I have no clue just frustrating to be on the lookout and have zero chance of buying one.

I found that the majority of SFOs are actually quite easy to get in on.
Go to whomevers site, shoot an email and when they open the reservation area, you head over and click "sure" for your spot.

But back on topic, has anyone else been carrying a larger knife to get a feel for how this thing will handle?

I've actually been carrying smaller knives recently. I think I'm going to pick up a buck 110 belt sheath on the auction site for it. I assume it would fit?

I would think it will. The Buck 110 has a 4 7/8" closed length and this is right around there.

We're supposed to talk about the knives, not the ordering process, on the forum. But I wanted to let you know that there's a support group for people like us (people who miss all of the SFO early reservations). We have an account on Pinterest.com but we don't have any photos.

There's several posts regarding excitement for the split spring design on the Whittler and I'm wondering if someone wouldn't mind clarifying what's so exciting about it? Is it just the nostalgia of a true split back, or is there a functional advantage. I'm guessing the true split back is maybe a bit slimmer and the main blade will have a stronger spring vs sandwiching two springs together? I'm just really confused about this....
