Texas Camp Knife!

Gonna have to get a sheath for that one, it is quite big. At least i've got time to save up a few bucks for that though

This one is going to be tough for me. On the one hand, I would love to have a camp/scout style knife made by GEC. On the other hand, 4.83"?!

Texas-sized, indeed. :D

Edited to add: Aw, who am I kidding? I'll probably have to have one.

I will own one of these for sure!!!
I've been wanting GEC to do a camp knife for quite some time. The choice of a clip makes it even better!!!

I really like the design, preferring the first (long) shield. But I would love an acorn shield with the 440C ss steel blade and tools. Any idea on the handle/cover materials? BTW, I am from Texas and my BD is on April (cool present!)

I like the pattern but I just wish it would be smaller. 4.83 inches closed isn't something I can discretely carry in an urban environment.

I am not a fan of camp knives. I love this one though! I can definitely see carrying it in the woods, my favourite is my Black Lip looking glass Cattle King, a good solid big worker. I have decent sized hands and I like a big handful when working a knife. Of course I wouldn't think of carrying it in my scrubs, but GEC also has a lot of other knives much smaller with punches, cap lifters etc. to me this is a work knife, and should be substantial. One will certainly get enough leverage on the handle!

I would second the addition of a saw, as I know GEC can do a good job with them, as shown by STR's run of electricians knives, but I would suggest a thinner tip top to bottom, easier to get into tighter spaces when camping. The size, blades and tools look great. I would have liked to see a double ground punch, or a more scoop like design, as I feel they are better suited for wood work as well (camp knife vs harness Jack), which should be a consideration I think. I trimmed the tip of my S&W cattle knife to give it a more wood appropriate length/tip strength as it was too flexible for my uses, so not a big deal if I do it to this one. Adding a saw and this would be a great boating knife IMO, (especially if in 440C, but I'm good either way) and with bail would be not easily lost, significant enough to be a solo knife for significant work! I could see myself lashing it into my PFD, as a carry out when getting out of the canoe onto islands and other shores for short unplanned excursions. I'll find my existing camp knives and get a picture, I'm almost figuring out how to store my knives in my new place!

The long shield please!! Too many of the other in my collection! Long pulls..... Worked bolsters...Punch...... Wharncliffish sheepsfoot.....great swedges, and of course the combo lifter/opener- I hate loosing a blade to have both a lifter and an opener- but putting them both on one tool sounds great!! Please say they are coming out in a good solid red colour!!!

I've never thought I wanted the eventual GEC camp knife (still thought it would be a couple of years away!!) and I don't usually get excited over new releases, but darn that looks nice.

My cattle King is 4 1/8", the other four (SAK, Camillus, Camillus and Monarch) are all roughly 3 3/4". The Monarch has a very strong punch, but sharpens up nicely. A nice thin tip to a saw like on the SAK is what I would love to see.

These are more the style of punch I would hope, but worst case is I trim until happy like with the S&M.
Totally wishing out loud of course, like I said I'm surprisedly excited! (Clockwise from scalloped punch Keen Kutter, IXL, IXL, IXL, Monarch, SAK, Schatt & Morgan, GEC)

Hey johnny. Where have you been?

I've been locked away in rugged cabin high up in the himalayas waiting for a knife like this.... Not really.
Life has a way of throwing obstacles in your way and I've been fighting to get back.

Good to see you though, I hope your still toting that beautiful #73.

As far as the overall length being on the larger side, I think it's part of why this one is gonna be something special. I don't normally carry a knife that big in my pocket, but I'd definitely add a leather holster to keep it on me. Especially when I'm headed to the big woods.

Nice "Texas" Camp Knife Charlie - great blade choices too. I think one will need pants with Texas size pockets to haul that one around (or a belt sheath). OH

Here's a picture for perspective on the sheer size of this camp knife.

One more with a another standard size (3 5/8" closed) utility knife.

I like the additional knife blade and the choice of sheepsfoot for it. I also like the combined can-opener/caplifter: two tools you almost never need but need badly when you do, so why not combine them.
I wish mine still had the sheepsfoot. It could use some more clip, too.

Frankly, I love the design and blade choice. But, the size!! Think of the mass on this thing. It will be a brick. If you but it in your pocket, you will need a belt and suspenders.

I LOVE the size! As an actual working tool, the proportions look great.

PLEASE make it in stainless so I can take it to the beach and mountains without fear of rust!

Charlie I usually by used or older knives simply because of economics. This one however really catches my eye. I love the combination of a clip and a sheepfoot. I also like a punch and opener on a knife. The fact of it being a larger knife is kind of intriguing. Also I would place my vote for the second shield for me it is a better match for this knife. Because of it's shape and size for me it is reminiscent for what ever reason of the old boy scout shields and more appropriate for this pattern knife. This is one I will be placing a preorder for.
