Texas Camp Knife!

Looking on the GEC website, it appears that these will also be available as a whittler and cattle knife. I think I will like it in all variations.

Looking on the gec website, is there a slight recurve to the main clip blade, or are my eyes deceiving me?

Much prefer the shields on the ones at the start of this thread. The ones on the GEC website look like the Elmer's Glue logo.

I really like the design, preferring the first (long) shield. But I would love an acorn shield with the 440C ss steel blade and tools. Any idea on the handle/cover materials? BTW, I am from Texas and my BD is on April (cool present!)
Fellow Texan here and I'm with you on the stainless. That would be a great knife.

I was very fortunate to win this knife from a GAW earlier this summer. It's roughly 3.75''. I like the features, but I prefer clip points and wish it were a bit larger. I wouldn't have been drawn to this pattern had I not been given one. That said, as soon as I got it, "I Got it." It's super handy. I keep it in my truck. I like to carry a single blade. If in a holster I might carry on a belt in the woods. Perhaps the pine green jig bone from the new day TC would be a great fit for this camper.

I've used the lifter and punch quite a bit. The punch is useful to pry apart knots on rope for. I only use the tip of the punch and I agree that a saw would ne useful. Perhaps it could be a tapered saw with a scalloped tip that acts as a awl/ punch.

I large the size if used as a tool. One question I have is whether the bail weakens the pivot pin? My imperial scout camper is loose at this end. It can be pinched tighter but works loose. The screw driver/ lifter is on this end. Perhaps the torsion has been too tough in this pivot pin. I don't know the history of this knife, whether it was abused or not. I haven't used my GEC lifters/ screw drivers for screws for fear of weakening that pin. Is this foolish thinking?

I like the first shield and I like this pattern. I am concerned as to how pricey this will be with four blades and that much material. I like this project and i like the taller profile clip point blade. If this is a larger knife I may be apt to use in colder weather with gloves. Taller profile on the blade equals increased likelihood to be able to pinch it open without taking gloves off.

I wonder if the whittler will be a split back. One knife I'm waiting for would be a 54 in a single clip. After looking at this, I think a 98 single clip would be a great winter gloves to be able to open with gloves.

Sure! Now I find out there will be a whittler!

Dang, will hardly be able to get one I bet!! And doubt they will last long...... Hmmmm decisions, decisions!!
Would have been no decision if they replaced the pen blade with a punch, but now I have to decide!

Loved the idea of a large camp knife, now there's also a whittler? How am I supposed to resist that? The size will give you so much leverage to work the small blades.

I may have retired too soon to afford these great patterns...😄
O

All steel construction would be great on the Cattleman, stainless on the whittler and camp knife. Killer snap on all.

But of course, we get what we get.....

I like it, but in 440C it would LOVE it. Stainless is just so much more practical for me.

I see the Texas Camp is the proposed annual Oregon Knife Collector show knife for 2016. With their logo on the main blade.

I'm in for one, I like a large knife. The size of the new frame intrigues me, maybe just right for a Grand Daddy Barlow:D

This thread reads a bit like last year's forum knife thread! :D
