THANKS "brand" Fixed Blade Collection

That is stunning.

Thanks, it's one of my favorites. It's going to be a regular feature, I have a few blanks I made. Idk if you saw my other, personal edc? It's the same profile, but with lignum wood.....I call this model "No Love"

I Thought I designed it all by myself, then I saw a similar knife made by another maker Here. That maker gave credit to Bob Loveless. It was a lamb skinner.

I researched more, and found its Lamb, not lamb. Of Thomas Lamb designs, NOT Loveless who took/borrowed from him. Lamb was an industrial designer in the early 1900's he came up with the sculpted coke bottle handle styles. So the soldiers coming back from war could hold and grab various products, with ergonomically correct handle shapes.

So it turns out that I didn't design that handle shape so much as I was reinventing the wheel. But Loveless didn't either...... Hence my name of "No Love" which also has an ominous tone that I like.... :)

That chili red micarta really Pops!
It's hard to work with, and I have more from that same sheet.

My Chopper test was successful.... actually Beyond successful. I was kinda worried with having it what I thought was "too hard" at 62HRC. But I'm really Beating it....No chips, nothing.

I'm putting a real handle on it.
Last week it was foam bubble wrap, and tape.
This week it's a chunk of linen micrta I got from AKS.

Really excited.....This model of Chopper, with a variety of blade lengths is going to be a regular.

Calling it..... "No Sizzle"

There is a marketing belief/saying.....
"You don't sell the steak, you sell the Sizzle."

Well, I got No Sizzle...... ;)
It's Perfect.

That's a heck of a chunk of steel! Nice!

It's the Biggest blade I'm finishing, so far.
When I first walked up to the grinder I could tell this was going to be weird.... I had to pull my grinder away to the wall more, maybe another 6".

And just holding it while grinding was different from what I'm used to. The ballance, and weight....It's a good 13" blade.
I wanted it to compete with the 1311, which is one of my absolute favorites. I believe it's going to be Better....I've always wanted SYKCO to make a 1511.... But they haven't.
I'm thinking I'm going to have to go Bigger, and even Less Sizzle....haha. I'm hoping a15" is going to be wanted some day.

This is good practice for an upcoming order I got, and I get to test out the handle profile before making more. :D

Looks awesome to me! That's a short sword, haha The handle seems to be perfect for getting a good swing.

Nice 1/4 sawn oak too. Old? Old tree anyways. Beautiful stuff!

Yeah, I found two little boards when we moved in.
Idk anything about them, I assumed oak too. Beautiful flakes and rays. Not sure what I can do with them? But I keep them, cause they are pretty.

This one, I use to Squish my foam, and kydex. Every sheath I make kisses this board, some......are lucky enough to get pics, too. If I use it as a backdrop like today. 😅

*side note..... My grandfather worked in a development lab making stuff for a private religious university..... Anyway, long time ago they remodeled their church. He got a bunch of oak boards from pews, and such. This was before the seventies. My dad then eventually got them, I helped him make a bunch of shelves, nothing special.....
But WOW that wood is Hard! Like Crazy Hard. People talk about cutting oak, and it's hard.... Well new boards from the lumbermill or home depot are like butter. Every cut burned These boards, it was interesting.

This wood was over 100 years as boards. Now, actually over 150.
That must do something to it?
He still has a bunch getting pooped on from raccoons up in his barn loft.

I have No idea what to do with it?

Could also be the difference between old growth trees and new growth. Newer trees that are harvested for board I don't think are as dense as old growth. I could be wrong though.

Also what kind of steel are you using? And any distal taper on that behemoth?

Yep.... One of the buildings at work is a Church built around 1910ish.

1/4 and rift sawn oak for EVERYTHING. Doors, pews, some floors, trim, railings, cabinets,... All of it.

Gorgeous. These doors just got done last year. The shellac was so old and heavy you couldn't even see the beautiful wood underneath anymore. Now it's awesome.

Anyways, your projects look like a blast! Thanks for sharing your new work.

I would think the harder RC would chip out, but maybe you got the best from the steel.

It still might, I'm going to be progressively upping the ante?
I know that AEBL, NitoV, etc.... Are very fine grained, and very tough and why they are used for razors..... It was a steel, I was kinda reluctant to use. Seems so boring....

The blades I previously bought with it were soft. LT Wright is known for being light on what they Could do, for hardness, others too.... It makes a World of difference.too
Custom makers go for performance, bigger manufacturers go for reliability.
For my edc, and kitchen, and utility I'm bumping up to 63-64, and it's very awesome.
I'm more impressed every time I play with them, it's becoming one of my favorite steels.
*I've read, and know other makers who feel the Same. It's just so great to work with!
Woods knives in this steel, I like 62.

I Still don't know what I'll release into the wild for a Chopper?
I think I need to try to seriously Break this one, first.

62 might still be too hard, unless by special request?

I think so too, I have No idea how old they Are? I assume before the settlers got here?

I use all kinds of steels. I like so many!
This is AEB-L @62HRC treated by BOS

My next choppers are going to be More of this or Nitro, A8mod, 80crc2, and 1v

As far as taper.... Not in any length, meaning, only at the point, from me rotating the blade when grinding the front. So just a couple inches.
It's a Chopper, and not very tall. And not very thick, I think 3/16" ? So a taper would make the blade too light feeling at this thickness.
That's kind of a magical thickness for longer choppers. 3/16"

In my opinion, 1/4" thick choppers need to be shorter, like 1 2" or shorter in blade length. Otherwise our forearms get ruined. Haha

Thanks for the reply!

That makes sense with choppers, I should have thought of that. Thanks for all the info too.

With the success of my recent Chopper, I'm thinking of pushing the boundaries of what's doable with size and weight.....?

What is realistic? I'm seeing this as a hand and a half grip, so the swinging potential is Massive.

Possible 17" blade...

If I order some material would there be Any interest in this, or should I only order materials for one?
