The “Can’t leave anything alone” Thread

Time to bump this thread!

Bunch of minor changes to some of my knives:

New scales for my Super Gold 2 Delica. Dark Matter carbon fiber. I also added some bronze screws/sleeves and an uncoated clip. :)

New clip, standoffs, screws, and carbon fiber scales for the Benchmade Mini Grip. Next up is a Damasteel blade to replace the hideous black coated blade.

I picked up the House of Blades exclusive Leek in titanium and 20CV... So of course I had to anodize it blue. I also added a Lynch clip (best Leek clip ever).

I snagged an APurvis timascus clip for my Drunken to go along with the blue hardware I added a while back. :)

And a new deep carry clip for the titanium/3V 20.5. I also added some Skiff bearings. I’m thinking about anodizing it blue…. Imagine that.

And a new set of Skiff bearings for the Whippersnapper too. :D

Took down the slim midi and reblasted it to a bead finish. Re-anodized so it was more bronze than gold. Great feeling scales now. That slippery feeling from the factory wasn’t my favorite.

I posted pictures of an earlier version of this knife today, in the 'Just pix of knives' thread because I couldn't for the life of me find this thread. 🤨 That version had oak scales and was a design prototype.

Now that I've found the right thread, here's my Rat II with it's new bocote scales.

I only use the clip in the right-side tip-up position, so I omitted all the other clip mounting holes. I also don't use a lanyard, so I omitted that hole as well. That's 11 holes that, in my mind, always cluttered up the look of the knife. The original scales were the Desert Tan and the holes really stood out on the light color.

I'm a big fan of modded production knives. The below Boker Mini Kwaiken and ZT 0450 had regrinds by Josh of Razor Edge Knives and aged micarta scales made by the infamous Steve Ketchen:

To me, even when the costs of the mods exceed the price of the knife itself, it's justifiable when you really, really like that particular knife and there simply isn't something else in "stock" form that could replace it for you. This is especially true with mods that dramatically increase the actual usefulness of the knife as a tool, like Josh's regrinds.

A few more while we're at it:

Small Sebenza with aged paper micarta scale by Ketchen:

Boker Zero with regrind and acid wash by REK:

Spyderco Roadie with regrind by Josh (which turned it into the closest thing I have to a scalpel):

Sometimes the modding can get a little freaky. This particular one was a Chinese clone of a RAD Knives Field Cleaver that was completely reshaped (blade chopped down and handle shortened and reshaped), with a micarta scale, then re-tapped for a deep carry clip:

that spydeee is dope , good stuff

Broke the clip on my deka last night. I’ve had plenty of clips bend on me but I’ve never had one snap like this.

Put the mxg clip off of my hinderer slippy on it until I can get ahold of hogue for a replacement clip.

The MXG clip just didn’t have enough tension for my liking.
