The “Can’t leave anything alone” Thread

Well hello there... Bjorkman's Twist Damasteel Spartan Harsey Folder. :D

That's the coolest one of those I've seen yet.

That gives me a great idea. I have my brother’s 110 (passed away in ‘07), and engraving it would be something he really would have appreciated. Are Buck’s bolsters any more difficult to work on? It’s just a plain Jane model he bought at Cabelas if that matters.
This is a Buck 110😉

I have my dad's Launch 8, and in the future would like to have you do a small bit of work on the clip side. He used to doodle walleyes (on other people's insurance quotes of all things) and I would like to have one of his walleyes engraved. Currently trying to find one of his masterpieces. My mother, my sister, and I are all getting tattoos of it.

That sounds cool, but unfortunately I don't cut through anodizing on aluminum...there's a risk of flaking at the edges of the cuts😔

I realize that ya jackass lol, I only asked because years ago an engraver who actually did pretty decent work told me he didn’t like engraving brass because it’s too soft? All I wanted was my initials and birthdate on a 112 that has sentimental attachment, but I know nothing about your craft, so I dropped it. Firearms were more his thing, so maybe he just wasn’t interested in messing around with my Buck? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ahhh...now I get it😂 Yeah, it's definitely softer than the Ti and stainless I cut but that doesn't make it a problem😉 Copper can be tricky sometimes because it can be gummy...but most of the brass I've done has been fine.

So I finally got to modding a Civivi Baklash. I scale-swapped to get non-coated liners, hardware, and blade with Micarta scales. Skiff bearings, because of course. Then I started deleting the forward jimping on the lock bar. As with several other Civivi models, the lock-bar access had its jimping proud of the scales, which acted like little teeth and created a hot spot for me.

I hadn't realized until I started that the curvature of both the jimping and scale are irregular curves. So I tried to match it, going no deeper than the valleys of the jimping. A little more needs to come off before I finish but I had to put it back together for a fit check anyway. I decided to carry it for a while while I think about it.
