The “Can’t leave anything alone” Thread

Nice little Sunday project on a CRU-WEAR Manix 2.

It was a Knifecenter exclusive from some years back, came clad in carbon fiber scales originally. I swapped those out with some TeroTuf scales from Fireside Co. in their "Seafoam" green.

Then I gave the blade a light acid wash (didn't take long with this steel). Instead of stonewashing as I originally intended to do afterwards I just brushed it lightly, which I think made for a pretty cool effect. I gave the liners an acid wash as well.

Then I threw in a purple Ti lock cage while I had it apart, and flamed the hardware as always. All-in-all I'm happy with the results. It was fun, rewarding, and went together surprisingly easily given the horror stories I've heard about taking the Manix apart.

I was working on this yesterday as well, but waited until today and the wife wasn't home to put the stonewash on since I just use the rather loud ceramic media in a plastic container method. I put the acid stonewash on the blade of the Buck and Cadet to match the Boker, flamed the hardware on the Buck to my best impression of tarnished copper, and brushed the stonewash off of the copper Cadet scales. I also sanded the micarta on the Boker a touch to knock the shine down a bit and help them match better.

About an hour later and...

I honestly didn't mind the old scales. But these Smock Grid v2 anodized titanium scales take this knife to another level!

Unfortunately the lighting in my house really doesn't do this justice. I'll be sure to take some glamor shots in some natural light tomorrow.

Got a couple Todd Begg War Junkie Citadel's. Got rid of the blue ano and backspacer on one. Like the regular gray titanium color more, the blue is cool and all but damn...Thing is about an ounce lighter now without the backspacer.

Benchmade 940. I never liked the purple backspacer. Put a wire brush wheel on my grinder and removed the purple ano. Then sprayed it with hunter green paint and a matte clear coat. Worse case the peaks wear and the raw metal shows. Or I just remove all the color and go with raw metal.

Grinded the annoying dull/choil part off the blade and instead rounded the part close to handle so that it doesn’t interfere sharpening. Lightly sanded off the black coating for ”old tool-esque” looks. Made leather pocket sheath.
