The 2016 knives have landed!

Nice contrast between the two. I'm still waiting on mine - I ordered late so it will probably be awhile before it arrives. I like the dark color on the left. No problems with blade rub or opening the punch with the spear in closed position?

I choose one as my carry and sharpened it up! It is in my pocket as I type this:)

There is a slight amount of blade rub and the action was a bit stiff, but I have worked it enough to smooth it out already and the slight blade rub doesn't bother me on a thin single spring knife. Well done GEC and thanks to Charlie!

A shame the worms got to that bone so bad. Hope you got a discount. :D

I got mine today . Very nice but can't open punch with main closed . It's also doesn't snap close, I have to follow it down . Hoping things improve once its flushed

Update- flushed with dish soap, dried, and oiled with ballistol . Main alot smoother and no improvement on the punch . Any suggestions?

Hmmmm... Which thread should I post about the BF knife ?

This is my first BF knife.
This is my first equal end.
This is my first with a punch.
This is my first with a square ended bar shield.
This is my first worm groove / Indian Trail.

I only have one other knife with a spear blade, but I have never carried it or cut anything with it.

The knife has won me over in every way possible !! The jigging is beautiful. Color and worm groove are fantastic. The weight and heft are solid but not to big. The solid feel goes well with the size of the spear blade.
The sweage on the blade is sweet, and the edge looks great. ( I have not cut anything )
The punch opens and closes fine, no matter if the main blade is open or closed.

I am so impressed !!!! GEC just keeps pushing the bar higher and higher. My wife likes it (esp. the punch). The artwork is cool.
I'm gonna carry this one, because it seems like a perfect work knife. So let the patina grow. Let the scratches become badges of honor.

Once again THANKS to Barry/Charlie/Bill/everyone else. Your work and expertise do not go unnoticed, it is greatly appreciated.

I'm in the exact same boat as you. I've tried everything I know to do just short of wedging the bolsters open a hair, but I'm afraid if I do that it will create play. The punch tang must just be a hair to thick, but I still don't get why it won't open when the spear is closed. There's no significant rub that I've been able to locate. It's frustrating, because the overall knife turned out sooooo nice. The shape of the ultra pointy punch looks super handy, and the spear blade turned out beautiful. And that bone with the bar shield...
It looks like our only option is going to be sending it back to GEC.

Thats a bummer , I was hoping for a quick fix.

I bought 5 of the BFs, and have that same punch trouble with one of them!!
GEC is closed this week, but next week I will look into it, and find out what the fix is!! Darn!!

soon, im in for two, one of the bladeforums, and as luck would have it, one of Charlie's SFO. Fingers crossed that they be alright!

My punch closes just fine, but it does take considerable effort to open while the spear is closed. After studying for awhile, I have determined that -for my knife anyway- the blades are wedged together very closely to fit between the scales (as expected with single spring). The punch though is nestled just underneath the thickest part of the spear, and when I go to open, I am naturally pushing it even tighter against the spear, wedging them together. If I don't touch the main blade while opening the punch, it's a little easier to open.

I'm not sure if this is the cause for anyone else's issues, but thought I'd share in case it is. I would have no clue how to remedy this without thinning one of the blades.

Hopefully you can contact GEC and they will get back to you soon with a fix, that is no fun that you got a bum one!!

These look fantastic! Any chance soneone can post a pic next to another knife, such as a 77, for size comparison. Would love to grab one of charlies in ebony!

Here's a quick pic of what is in my pocket right now.

They are practically the same size. Obviously the 35 is thinner since it's a single spring.

Thanks for chiming in, Charlie. I'm planning to send mine back to GEC but I'll wait and see what you find out. If there's a home remedy that would be great.
