The 2016 knives have landed!

Here's a quick pic of what is in my pocket right now.

They are practically the same size. Obviously the 35 is thinner since it's a single spring.

Oh that is perfect! Now i need one, for sure. Thank you.

In regards to my eariler post , not being able to open punch with main closed. In addition to flushing and oiling it , I left the punch half open overnight . Now I can open punch with main closed and I don't have to follow it down to close it . No need to send this one back .

I'm sure you guys know this but it was actually more than half open. I opened punch and watched spring until it was forced out as far as possible.

Good tip John. I do that sometimes with other hard to open knives before I send back. Glad it helped with yours.

I'm lovin' mine! It opens and closes real nice after using it a little. Carrying it today with an old cross SAK, which compares closely in size and weight; the SAK weighs 2.6 oz. and the BF weighs in at 2.7 oz. and they are about the same thinness. You get more blade and a needle-like punch with the GEC, but not the screwdriver/can opener blades. :D

Mine's still sitting at the factory apparently.

Could probably buy one in the exchange from someone who bought 5 and got all of them before mine comes.

Got mine today. I love the thing. Very slim and covers are a great color. I like the pattern of the jigging and worm groove. The pins are fantastic, nicely domed and none set under the surface of the covers. The threaded bolsters add some class. The spear blade looks great with the long pull and swedge. Nice thin grind that will make for a real slicer. The awl is VERY pokey and will be perfect for splinter removal and many other functions.

The only negative, and I almost hate to bring it up, is that mine suffers from the sticky awl dilemma. Haven't had it in hand long enough to diagnose it but I don't see any rub marks on the awl or blade. I looked for an obvious burr on the liner but don't see one. I'll try to figure it out when I stop drooling over it. Thanks to all for making it happen.

Mine arrived and I absolutely love the design of the knife. Unfortunately, it arrived with no closing snap on the main blade - likely the opposite of some others' problems, the mark side of the tang rubs against the liner. It had to be pushed all the way down to close.

I've been working it and flushing the joint like crazy and it has gotten better, hoping I can continue to break it in and it won't be necessary to send back.

It does seem that in their urgency to get the knives out to our anxious hands before shutdown, GEC skipped some steps in the QA process. Surely, making sure both blades open and close would be something that is normally checked?

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm hoping it's a good thing I waited and they fix the knives they haven't shipped yet. I'm not going to be happy if I get a knife that doesn't open/close correctly.

Man Man Man Man. I hate to even type this, but does GEC do refunds....? :barf:

Mine has the sticky punch problem and even hits the liner when closing if the spear is closed. To get the punch to close I have to open the spear and push the punch sideways away from the liner. This is the first GEC I have ever had problems with and I just feel sick even thinking about returning it.

I've come to terms with it. I'll wait until Monday or Tuesday, contact Christine at GEC, and follow her instructions for sending it back. I'm not too worried about it because I'm very confident that GEC will return it in full working condition.

It's just a matter of waiting it out. Before I know it I'll have a great knife and I will have forgotten all about the punch defect. It's unfortunate but the disappointment is only temporary. Looking back several months it occurs to me that I wasn't expecting this knife until around Thanksgiving anyway so for me it's not as bad as it might seem.

Mine unfortunately seems about the same as yours. I'm beside myself as to what to do next, return it back to Barry for a refund or send it to GEC in the hopes it could be fixed. (I really wanted to like this one, but I'm kind of torn at this point)

It's a real shame, the way things are beginning to pan out - I can foresee a scenario where Charlie and Barry don't get involved in another forum knife due to the head ache. It almost didn't happen in '14 because of the congress Jack fiasco....

Expecting the world and expecting both blades to function are wildly different. The fact that there are a number of defective knives is no reflection on Charlie or Barry. I very much appreciate what they've done and absolutely love the design. I'm sure GEC will make it right.

Just to be clear, this doesnt affect my opinion of gec at all. I noticed this is also a 'premier pattern production' or however the saying goes. There is a learning curve with every new endeavor.

Now that my gut sinking emotion has passed, , im alot more mellow about the situation.

Sucks that everybody at gec has a pretty hectic 'welcome back' week ahead.

It absolutely effects my opinion of GEC... I understand that issues arise, but blades with no snap and an inability to open a blade with the other closed should NEVER get through QC much less just a function check!

I'm sure they will make them right and all that, but how exactly did all these lemons make it out the door to begin with is my question.
