The 2016 knives have landed!

Got mine this afternoon. No issues or problems at all! Both punch and spear work without any issue and are both fine to deploy. I did oil both joints with "Liquid Bearings" and worked each about 25 times and the pull on both is superb. Both spear and punch lock open without any play and there is no rubbing on opening or closing. I am very pleased! Thanks Barry, Charlie and GEC:thumbup: Lloyd

Mine arrived today, usual butter knife edge on the blade and had to use a small screwdriver to open the punch.
Think I will say this is the last GEC product for me,have had too many with issues.

I received my knife today, the blade and awl opens and closes just fine.
I am happy with everything about this knife, it looks great and has a nice feel in hand.

Got mine yesterday, and though the blades were a little sticky when opening, I flushed them out with soap and water, then oiled it, opened and closed it about 100 times, and now it is working like a GEC. The knife has some slight blade rub, but the spear blade is razor sharp...right from the factory. I liked it so much, I have ordered another from Barry. I'm keeping one for the safe, and one for my pocket. This knife begs to be carried. Nice jigging and worm groove. Good looking knife.

I got mine on Thursday, flushed with soap and water, oiled the joints, and the spear blade is smooth as butter, but the punch is still locked in there. Everytime I open it it feels like metal grinding, there aren't any rough edges anywhere, but still its a 10 on pull, it doesn't matter if the main blade is open or closed. I hope GEC can remedy this, it is such a beautiful knife but I don't have the desire to carry it because of the punch. I'm glad I got one, and hope to carry it in the future.

I've got an update on my punch blade issue. I flushed, dried, and lubricated the joints with Quick Release and things have gotten better. The spear blade no longer acts as a liner lock for the punch and the punch comes closer to closing on its own with the spear blade closed.

I still have to push the punch closed but now I only have to push it the last quarter of an inch or so. At first I had to push it all the way from the half closed position. The punch still will not budge from the closed position with the spear blade closed without the help of a pick or screwdriver.

So my problem is not yet solved but things have gotten a little better. Still having issues but there might be some light at the end of the tunnel after all. I'll report back here if things improve any further.

Mines came in the mail today. Spear blade has no snap while opening/closing. I have to push it in the well to close. Punch only opens while spear is out. With spear closed the punch catches the liner when closing, so I only can close it with spear out.

Sigh ... I too will wait for more info from GEC before making a decision on what to do.

I think GEC should have made this a 2 spring knife.

Mine came earlier than expected, and I'm very pleased with it. The punch rubs against the blade on opening, and aaalmost hangs up on the way to closed, but it functions fine even with my weak nails and it's going to be a user. I was relieved to get a "good one" but I'm sorry others are having problems with theirs. I wonder what percentage of these are problematic?

Rick , have you lefted the punch sprung open overnight? I was where you are and in desperation decided to leave it sprung open. I was surprised the next day went I could actually open it . It was stiff and I had to get a good purchase or it would break my nail. I have left it open three days and is easy to open and snaps closed

I had the punch problem, and left the punch open for 12-14 hours, and got a definite improvement. I am going to try it for another 24 hours, and see how it goes.

John, I have not tried that yet but I'm done messing with it for today so now would be a good time. I've got the spear closed now and the punch opened to about 3/4 of the way opened. That seems to be the position that puts the most stress on the backspring. I'll see it how it performs in the morning and take it from there.

Thanks for the reminder.

Mine arrived this afternoon. It is glorious in every way!!!

I'm really, really liking this 35 frame.

Looks like some hits and misses on this bunch. Not a fan of HJ's so didn't bother with this pattern. Hope those who are having problems are able to get them fixed.

Used mine tonight to cut up my steak tip dinner. It served well! The punch does very well as a toothpick with a bit of caution of its extreme degree of pointieness.
Really enjoying the beauty and feel in hand of this piece of art.

This was a new pattern for GEC, so I guess they had some "teething" issues with it:( I like the size and design of the frame, so I hope they listen to the issues some are having and adjust accordingly moving forward! I am looking forward to seeing the blade combos offered in the future with the 35.

Just got mine out of the tube this evening. It's a really handsome knife and feels good in pocket. The punch on mine operates perfectly, but the main is a little lazy closing. It feels a little grabby. The tang seems to just be rubbing the liner. There's a little blade rub as well, but I'm not particularly concerned about that. I'm thinking it ought to break in more as I use it.

Got mine today. Great knife! Thanks again to all involved.

And how we manage to produce knives with consistent lengths is beyond me...

Amen pmew. "I'm perfect so I expect the world."

Wow....very first post in this forum! Congrats and welcome!

Unfortunately, my forum knife doesn't suffer from sticky joints or burrs. There's enough blade rub that the main, when closed, forces the punch into the liner so much that the punch becomes wedged and won't budge. When opening the main, you can actually hear a "click" as the punch slides off the shoulder of the spear's swedge and springs back to it's designated position.

I hate to say it but I'll be returning this one. I certainly don't "expect the world" but a functioning knife is always nice.

Mine was delivered about 1800 yesterday evening. Not a thing wrong with it and built like a tank. This will become a favorite. Begs for a bail on the awl pivot end.

Unfortunately, no improvement after leaving the punch partially opened for 16 hours. I think it's in my best interest to let the professionals at GEC fix this knife properly.
