The 25, 21, Regular and Umnumzaan comparison photos ***VIDEO & Pics Inside***

Boy this knife is tightly built. I wanted to get a feel for the knife without the pocket clip but no luck, the thing won't budge. Maybe tomorrow when I can find something in plastic to pry with.

I took mine apart and it was hard as hell! I had to use the two wrenches that come with the knife to pry the scales apart from one another. Got my first big scratch while trying:)

DITTO!!!!!++++ three scratches for me though.

Took a very large plastic putty knife and some gust-o but I've taken mine apart twice now with no scuffs!

When I took my 25 proto apart I taped a small screw driver placed it between the titanium slabs and tried turning my wrist left to right to pry it up. Had to add another taped screwdriver and place one at both ends and it popped up nicely. Nice thing was since it was inside the titanium slabs, no marks. Though I have scratched the heck of it while carrying since then.

I don't think I'd have it in me to carry the Proto.

Sure you do. Once the first scratch is in it, it's all good. Besides, if Mr Reeve can carry his I owe it to him to carry mine and use it. And since he agreed to put it together on my B-day I could never sell it, so might as well use it. Only thing I refuse to do is pry with the tip. It is my favorite knife!

That's awesome! A proto on your bday......nice score

Do you need to take the handle apart to clean/lube the blade? I suppose you have to since it doesn't have the bushing.

The new perforated washers helps keep the lube in and the dirt away. So you don't have to do it often to clean the blade but once every other month, to get out the dirt and pocket lint, etc. They are very durable. In between cleanings I use Ballistol and that leaves it smooth.

I have yet to pull my 25 apart. Mine came smooth as silk. No scratches yet after 5 days of pocket carry. The old CRK nylon sheath was just for show.

I'm not much of a lanyard guy, I usually remove them at the first cleaning, but this new setup feels so good in hand I may be a convert. When in normal grip, it really adds to grip length and comfort. Now if CRK could just invent a classy but understated scull lanyard bead I'd be set.

BBQB,

The Unnumzaan always created a hot spot for me because the clip was too close to the edge of the handle, this looks to have a clip very close to the handle as well. Does it create a hot spot for you? Have you had similar experience with the Umnumzaan?

About the clip position ONLY, while not as comfortable as the 21, not as annoying as my Starzaan. I would love a slightly smaller clip (with a scary skull or something on it of course).

I would love to see an option for no clip, as in no recessed hole to put a clip or anything! Since there arn't any locating holes or lanyard hole on the front scale it would really smooth it out! But that'll never happen.

This may have been mentioned already but can the pivots be swapped between the old style Umnumzaan and the 25?

I wouldn't want a large seb without a clip .......but that really would look sharp on the 25 wouldn't it?

Thanks for the pictures everyone. Starting to grow on me by the day.

I saw one sitting in the shelf of my local knife shop and I went apeshit crazy. If the lockbar wasn't sitting at 80% I might have been willing to pay extra (tax) to get it right away. Pictures really don't do this knife any justice, I love it.

For those of you who has it, what % if your lockbar at?

I'm probably around 75%.

GAHHH.... I really hate how they changed the lockup to being so late now.

Guys, remember, it is the ceramic ball engaging as explained.

One thing to keep in mind is that like the Zaan the contact point for the lock bar is not the Ti face but the ceramic ball. Based on where the ball is placed then it is probably sitting pretty close to center of the blade lock face. My Zaan is sitting between 75-80% and had not budged in the last two years.

The later lockup of around 80% is normal and has been ever since the Umnumzaan was introduced. To this day no one has had a problem with the Umnumzaan's ceramic ball lock. This later lockup should not discourage anyone from buying the knife IMO.
