Fondling this new knife, I found myself wondering who designed it? The info I saw said that it morphed from the 124 and six guys had to sign off on each aspect of the design as the process slowly proceeded, but no info on who did the work.

Maybe Buck keeps these things secret?

I don't know that I have ever heard who designed the 124 for that matter. Anybody know?

So........big question for the day. Who designed the 640 and the 124???

hey look at that searching works. nice catch there Sir. shows those 6 folks did the 640xl. for future searches...Ron Dupree, Rick Rehberger, John Renzi, Billy Bates, Dan Revert, Steve Bailey. sorry for any mistypes on spelling.

search kinda works again....talk of frank buck maybe

Well, all links aside, I still don't see an answer for who designed the 124 and all I see is that the six employees who were being honored were consulted and the process required their consensus on each step. Doesn't say for sure who actually DESIGNED the knife.

Maybe someone from Buck could comment so we could get confirmation from authority?

true but 124 says per Mr. Houser that Chuck might know but hes passed on. believe David Martin said Paul Bos might know.....appears Mr. Houser doesnt know....so odds arent good for an answer from buck as isnt Mr. Houser the historian amongst other many tasks at buck.

yeah but that is likely what buck will tell us on the 640xl.

sure like to learn more, not sure we will.

Well, the loss of info on the 124 shows that it's best to get these things figured out early.

Since the info mentions that these six guys worked in development and also owned and worked on the 124.........maybe one or more of them would know who designed the 124.

Could Hoyt Buck have designed the 124?
I don't know how long the 124 has been available.

I wonder why it would take so many guys to basically make a supersized 119 ?

You wonder........how many different shapes could there be for a knife???? Yet there ARE subtle differences that are pleasing to the eye.

The 640 is a helluva lot better shaped than most knives.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Oh it's definitely an awesome looking knife ( not big on the long pointy guard though ) but I just wonder why it took so much to come up with it.
Maybe it just took forever to decide what kind they wanted to do, then making what looks like a 119 on steroids was an obvious choice as its looks are unmistakably BUCK.

In my career I worked on some committees and it takes ten times as long for each person added to the committee.
If this was actually designed by six guys........

My thought is that Buck management wanted to recognize and honor the contributions of these six long time employees and this proved to be a way to do it and get a unique limited edition out. Preston

Andy in customs built those 640s. I texted Joe H for his wisdom.

True, but what I want to know is........who actually designed the knife?

its those 6 employees and likely used existing parts such as 124 blade and 905 guard as desotosky mentioned. buck is good at using existing pieces as when i asked mr. hubbard who designed the 916 and why the handle was so small.....he wnet and asked the the fellow who designed it and he said he used an existing guard they used so required the small handle to put it together. i am paraphrasing for the record.

When I look at the 640 I see 124 clip point with a 905 style guard.

True.......but a designer had to sit down and envision and draw the exact shape of the blade.......also the shape of the 905 style guard and the filework and the placement of spacers, spacer material, etc.
