Your right Cougar. I did not mean to infer that O-1 was cheap because it is a crap steel. I meant it was cheap because of what you stated plus it is readily available, has a proven history, has been around for ever, it certainly does not take a rocket scientist to work it (although McClung would argue it take a rocket scientist to do it right), and it is not one of those steels that has been highly modified to get a certain set of properties.

Simply put O-1 is a very simple steel therefor it has a cheap price on the open market.

I just saw Steve Harvey and Kevin McClung at a McDonalds eating Happy Meals, and you'll never guess who was with them. Josh Burbank!

Idi Amin and Saddam Hussein were in the next booth, but it's not like they were sitting together or anything.

I have been familiar with Steve's writings since the early days of rec.knives and have the greatest of respect for the bloke and his knowledge of knives. His posts on the MD controversy do not diminish that respect in any way.
I don't agree with them but I admire his loyalty to a man (and his work) that he, clearly, admires.
I believe that Harve is posting in all sincerity and don't feel he should be regarded as a "troll". Let's make some leeway for dissenting opinion.

Sorry, Harve......I don't mean to appear as patronizing....just had to say something.

I agree with Brian as well. Let's keep the discussion going but lets stick with the facts. No attacks on Steve as he is just doing what he feels is right.

I know it is fun to poke at McClung and much of this can be viewed as "Payback Time" but let's not stoop to that level. Even my post was boderline and it is obvious that I too am tired of all this BS.

What I am more tired of is the false, unsubstantiated atacks against my integrity.

If I have offended anyone in my behavior I too am sorry.

I apoloigize to Steve as he may very well be viewed as a victim in this case.

I do not however apologize to Kevin McClung for any of my posts. I did so in the past, but not now. I will however be happy to look past this incident and will not post much unless provoked.

Harv is a tremendously valuable contributor to these forums -- especially his knife reviews; when he reviews a knife he reviews the heck out of it. I might satirize some of the things he says but I've done that to nearly everybody around here ... I'm not ridiculing him; I have the greatest respect for him. It seems like just about everybody says something worthy of satire now and then, at least to my eyes....

I think his belief that everybody is always picking on Mad Dog for no reason is wrong, but except for that one belief ... and who knows, maybe one of my own most cherished beliefs is wrong, too ... though I can't imagine which one it could be....

Could I be wrong about some of Mad Dog's knives being flying saucer keys in disguise? Could I be wrong about Bill Gates having the number 666 tattooed in purple ink on his ****? Could I be wrong about the government conspiracy to manipulate schoolchildren into drinking their milk out of straws to make their teeth grow in crooked and provide more jobs for orthodontists?

Yup, Steve is cool, even when I don't agree with him. Of course, I don't have any personal knowledge of MD knives, only of Kevin McClungs writing on KFC and his current forum, so any opinion I have is only based on those facts. But, in my experience with Steve, (on BM, KFC, here and @Tacticalforums) he has always been helpful, very courteous and always straight forward. I think he's acting reasonably here, not trolling.
BTW, Jim, your post was VERY funny!

I want to say I have a lot of respect for Steve. I am a fan of "tactical knives" and was initially intrigued by Mad Dog knives. But I will never know about Mad Dog knives personally. In my early days lurking on Knifeforums and then as a participant. I was totally turned off by MD's treatment of people who questioned his knives. As a newbie of knives, I certainly wouldn't want to be berated by someone I pay $300 plus dollars to for a knife when I have legitimate questions about the performance vs some of the promo put out there.

Having said the above, I wouldn't necessarily try to dissuade anyone from buying or owning a MD. It's a personal thing with knives...

Sorry, but this post was a troll. He started a new thread, attempting to ignite flames over the very subject that he was claiming wouldn't die - a subject that is already an existing 6 (as of now) page thread, amongst many others. And it worked. We're at two pages now, discussing whether or not we discuss too much. And getting heated about it. Again.

I'm not calling Steve a troll, or questioning his right to an opinion. He has many very good opinions that I would in no way ever hinder the expression of. Opinions are one thing. I'm calling the post a troll. Posts like the one that started this thread are amateurish attempts to start arguments and garner attention.

I think that Josh and MD are about the last two you will ever see sitting together. Josh really is the first one who I saw publicly questioning MD's claims about his knives.
As for Steve I disagree with alot of what he says, but anyone who studies the Inayan system is ok with me. And I must say Steve really writes some great knife reviews.
Btw Steve had to get his post for the month in, to qualify for the knife give away.
