The Adventures of Pearl !!! Host list post's #22 and #23

Alcohol for cleaning and grease for the joints. :D
All bases covered!:D

Looks like you've had some pretty good snowfall there, Mark. Good news is, Pearl already knows her way around a snow shovel. :D

My gosh, Barrett! I guess she is an experienced snow bunny. That looks like 2 feet! If I remember right, was that your first snowfall at the new house after moving from AZ? What a rude awakening.:)

If Pearl gets a little homesick it may be because she's heard a weather report from home it was 69 and sunny here today and it's 52 right now. It might be a good idea to keep her away from the weather channel. :D:D
Randy, that's just not fair!;) I guess it will make her appreciate it more when she does get back home with you.

"The Compound" - I like that! ;)
I think I'm getting hit by the same massive system that's giving you that freezing rain and snow, Mark, but it has been all rain the past two days here. I don't envy you and your beautiful snow!
I DO like that view from the back deck, though!:thumbsup: Is that your "pool deck" with the curving staircase? That looks great! :):thumbsup:

Dreaming of a Brown Christmas ...

Thanks, GT!:)
A Brown Christmas sounds delightful!
Yes, that is the pool deck with the curve. Here's a shot of it in better weather.

The small deck in the foreground is "my" deck (its mostly shaded:)) and is made from Teak from a floor I replaced for a customer.
This one is from the pool deck looking toward the house.

Some day, I would love to put a hot tub to the right of "my" deck and connect it to the upper deck on the house with a set of stairs.
Probably more than you wanted to know, but there it is!

That was actually the last snowfall we got last winter (we moved in January, that was in April), but it was by far the biggest, 18-20 inches by the time it was done. And it came just after all the snow accumulated snow from winter had finally melted. :D

Good looking backyard setup you've got there! We had a pool in Arizona; it was fun, but I can't say that I miss the upkeep. :D

Yeah, the upkeep is a daily ritual. After the first year I kinda figured out what worked. I then taught the Mrs. everything I learned:rolleyes: and now its her baby. She enjoys cleaning and checking it everyday. She was so proud (for good reason) this year that we made it all year without having to "shock" it at all.

I have been carrying Pearl everyday at work and using her for mundane tasks. I hope to take her by the Henry Doorly Zoo and Lauritzen Gardens (got two free tickets for donating blood the other day!) for the yearly Christmas lights display in the next week or two, and a few other local attractions, before she heads off to the next in line, If it's ok to keep her awhile longer. Let me know if that's ok, Randy.

Work yesterday had me down near the zoo, so Pearl and I swung by for a quick visit.
Regardless of how you feel about zoo's, it's a fact that Henry Doorly Zoo is one of the finest.
Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo is a world class zoo and boasts many of the "Largest indoor attractions" in the world. Among them are largest indoor rainforest, desert, aquarium, also grasslands and a new Gorilla sanctuary.

More about it here: http://www.omahazoo.com/

My family buys a yearly pass almost every year. The pass also gives access to free IMax movies. One trip with the family, to the zoo and the theater, and the pass is paid for.

The large dome shown in the picture is called the "Desert Dome". As you can guess, its theme is desert animals and is a favorite place to go when the snow and ice make you want to move south. It is stunningly beautiful at night. The building to the right (in Pearl's pic) houses the Lied "Jungle", another good respite from the cold reality outside during winter.

Yay... Pearl got to go to the zoo. Fantastic!

Later this evening, I was able to brave the 20 mph wind long enough to turn the outside table, on end, as a wind block to get some food grilled for supper.
A sumptuous repast Mark. Pearl's figure may suffer.

I have her on the low carb, high protein, bacon and wine diet
I'm on that same diet! I'm not holding fast.

Some day, I would love to put a hot tub to the right of "my" deck and connect it to the upper deck on the house with a set of stairs.
Same here Mark. I even have the power ran to the determined spot but something seems to always get in the way. :( My joints are in dire need of it.

Is love in the air...?

Great posts! The Omaha zoo is now on my list of soon to see.

Fantastic pics of your trip to the zoo with Pearl, Mark!:cool::thumbsup:
(I'm not sure I could walk through that glass tunnel under the "aquarium" - that's a lot of water with the potential to cascade down onto me!:rolleyes:).

Once again I'm late getting caught up on Pearl. I have really enjoyed all the posts Mark. Especially your zoo. Would love to come and visit that one. We have one close to us in Knoxville but it doesn't compare to that one. I too am looking forward to the Christmas lights!!!
Merry Christmas to you and your family Mark!!!!

Pearl seems to be a friendly lass, Mark! ;)

Looking forward to some Christmas lights from her perspective. :):cool:

Thanks, GT!

Dwight, thanks for the kind words. My joints are longing for a hot soak, too!
The Zoo is worthy of a trip here, just in itself. Be sure to look me up.:)

Sounds good Mark I'm sure Pearl will enjoy the Christmas lights as well as myself and the rest of the Porch dwellers.
The zoo was very cool I'm sure the old gal had a blast I know I enjoyed it the 3rd picture is my favorite.
Thanks, Randy! That aquarium is COOL!

I want to take my kids to that zoo!
Your kids would love it, I'm sure. As I told Dwight, it is worth the trip, and if you do get here, look me up!

It's a little freaky if you think about it, GT. I think I remember seeing that the "glass" is 8 inches thick!

Good thing Pearl is "speyed"

I think ole' Buck is in the rut. He didn't seem to care.:)

Thanks, Jerome! You are welcome, anytime! Merry Christmas to you and yours, too!

I was able to take Pearl to the memorial of the old Rosenblatt stadium here in Omaha. I attended my first CWS game there in 1981 at the age of 10.

zT75q0G.jpg

Rosenblatt was home to the College World Series (baseball) from 1950 until 2010 when the new TD Ameritrade park was ready for use. Built in 1947 and renamed after beloved mayor Johnny Rosenblatt in 1964, who was instrumental in bringing professional baseball as well as the College World Series to Omaha. Rosenblatt Stadium was the largest minor league baseball stadium in the United States. The record for most consecutive sellouts at Rosenblatt stands at 82 consecutive games.

A few photos of TD Ameritrade park, the new home of the CWS, at least until 2035.

I accidentally deleted the photo of Pearl in front of the sculpture "The Road to Omaha"

It's kind of fun to see Pearl kicking around in the general vicinity of some of my old stomping grounds. My wife and I were in Lincoln from 2006-2015 while we completed our degrees.
