The Adventures of Pearl !!! Host list post's #22 and #23

Really wish you hadn’t mentioned beignets! They sound so good on a gray Nebraska day.;):D
Thanks, Neal

Apologies everyone! Pearl is still here with me down on southeast Louisiana. Life has a funny way of happening, and it's been happening all over the place lately. Hoping to get Pearl out to a Mardi Gras parade and down the bayou in the next week.

That sounds like a fantastic plan, Shawn!:thumbsup::) Looking forward to some pics of life in Bayou Country.:cool:

Well, the plan this evening was for me to meet my wife and daughter at the parades tonight, but I wound up putting in a 16 hour day. :(

I planned ahead, though! I asked my wife to tote Pearl along and snag a picture in the event that work got in the way (again). So, here's Pearl trying to catch some throws from the all-female Krewe of Muses! The "prized" throws are hand-decorated shoes that members spend weeks glittering and decorating, and wouldn't you know it: Pearl snagged one! It's buried in the back of my wife's SUV right now, so I'll post a picture of Pearl's haul tomorrow.

Hopefully, more adventure pictures this weekend! Happy Carnival, yall!

Got a chance to run out to the old stomping grounds since I'm off of work for Mardi Gras. I didn't want to flood too many pictures into this thread of the same location, but I'm not 100% sure I'll be able to make it downtown before I feel the need to send the knife to the next host.

I grew up 2.5 miles away from the exact spot the pictures were taken, in a little town named Bayou Gauche. Some of y'all may recognize this first place, but I believe the interior would probably ring more bells. Fans of the HBO series True Detective saw a lot of this little bar in the first season. Welcome to Doumain's Domain aka Fisherman's Wharf:

Old shrimping boats, house boats, and mud boats line the shore:

Wouldn't be a picture in SE La without some Spanish Moss on an Oak tree, right?

It's a quiet little part of the world; a place where hours can pass in minutes while you cast a line.

Thanks for letting me take Pearl on a little trip home. I'm really hoping to get her to New Orleans, but if I can't make it by this weekend, I feel it's best to send the old girl on to her next destination. Here's a link to a little article written on Fisherman's Wharf/Bayou Gauche from shortly after True Detective came out: https://punchdrink.com/articles/the-true-bar-behind-true-detective/

Great post, Shawn! Thanks for sharing!

Interesting connection with the True Detective series. I thought the first season (set in Louisiana) was fantastic, but I wasn't too keen on the second season. I heard that the third season is being filmed in Northwest Arkansas, where I grew up, so that should be interested (I just hope it's good).

Welp, I woke up before everyone else this morning; so I loaded up Pearl and my camera and blasted down Hwy 90 to NOLA. My excitement to get out the door got the best of me, though, as I didn't realize that my camera's battery was dead. So, I had to shoot with my phone which is a bummer because my phone is old, and I was really hoping to get some quality shots today.

Anyways, here's Pearl's tour of the Vieux Carré and NOLA.

It was a foggy morning for our tour, which makes New Orleans feel all the more special. All tours start and end here at Jackson Square.

The French Market has been in existence since 1791!

I spent many drunken nights on Lower Decatur when I was younger.

I did not spend many drunken nights on Bourbon, however, because it is a cesspool.

On the way out, I stopped on Magazine St. I'm 100% positive that Pearl and many Porch dwellers would have a fantastic day wandering through The National World War II Museum. It is truly a fantastic spectical.

What's a trip to NOLA if you don't check out The Superdome!

That's it for Pearl's tenure down my way, folks. I'll be getting in touch with the next recipient this evening to send her down the road. Thank you so much to r redden r redden and @r8shell for making this possible! Thank you all for taking this trip with me! Bon voyage, Pearl!

Thanks for the tour! And for hosting. Looking forward to the next adventure!

I really enjoyed the various adventures you and your family had while Pearl was visiting, Shawn!:cool::)
I don't watch much TV anymore, so I knew nothing about True Detective and Fisherman's Wharf, but I appreciated the pics from down on the bayou. Also liked the Mardi Gras pic, and all of these most recent ones of NOLA itself!!:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: I'm impressed that when you were young and spending drunken nights, you still realized Bourbon Street was a cesspool! :D:p:thumbsup: And I'm a longtime fan of all the JFK assassination debates, so Magazine Street caught my attention because Lee Harvey Oswald lived there for a while in 1963.

Thanks again for showing Pearl, and us, a good time!:cool::)

Thanks for the kind words, folks.

5K Qs 5K Qs GT, I've long loved reading about the theories, especially when it comes to the New Orleans connection. :D
...
Interesting stack of books, Shawn!:rolleyes::thumbsup:
I've never made it far enough into left field to have heard of, let alone read, Dr. Mary's Monkey!!:eek:;)

Great photos and trips with Pearl. You certainly took her out on the town Shawn.

A little bird says she'll be coming to stay with me next. Just in time, my father and I tapped 600 maple trees this past weekend, and the sugarhouse will be smelling of maple syrup for the next month or so. I'll teach Pearl a thing or 2 about hard work!
