Evil Eye Earl….to borrow a phrase from my granddaughter, OMG!!!
Just those knives you posted yesterday would make an excellent collection for anyone, and that was just one day's photos of your stag and ivory Buck knives. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!......

JB…once again, very nice!! That looks like fairly fat stag on the little chip flint 55. Thanks for adding so much to this thread!! I can keep posting for a little while longer, but only because I post just one stag or ivory Buck knife a day. I have to limit myself unlike you. :)

Armand…that is one of the nicest 103's I've ever seen!! I can tell from the photo that I would love to hold that fat stag in my hand. Thank you too for adding so much to this thread. You have an awesome collection of Buck knives!!

I have a nice Buck 112 for today. It has NS bolsters and satin finish blade.

Stumps, that's a sweet one... I'm like you, I have few Stag and Ivory Buck Knives I can post... I have to post one a day... for a few days...

I don't have a photo, but I do have a question. Is any sort of maintenance required for the stag handles, especially in a dry climate?

I definitely don't live in a dry climate. I don't do anything to the stag on mine, although I have seen some with a sort of clear finish to them and even on the bolsters. I like the ones I've seen like that.

I know one of my pre factory knives had a peeling yellow shellack type substance on the blade which made it look horrible. I took the shellack off and was pleased to find what looked like an unsharpened blade.

It will be interesting if anyone has an opinion on this.

Hi bertl, Stag is a bone type material you don't have to do anything to it, it's great stuff.

Armand, those last two I want;) the stag on your NAHC 103 is very nice and rare they were made with Cocobolo not stag. That crown stag 192 chippy is really something also, I love the arrowhead in the antler spur!

Here is a little gold and Ivory

I keep coming back to this thread I do not want to see it end . Thanks again Stumps for this knife she's a good looker .

Stag and ivory both will color with handling. Use a lot of oil for protection and you will see it move into the ends. Wipe the knife down with a oily rag lots and the flats will brown off also. Antler is less dense than ivory and rams horn, and will soak up oil quicker over time. In a knife that is 'used' blood, mud, stuff off your hands with darken the scales also. I believe elephant ivory is pretty good about staying light because of its density, more so than mastodon ivory. Of course Mastodon has already laid in the earth for a couple of eons. Different antler has different density. Sambar is considered the best because it has very little 'pith' in the middle. American whitetail can have a goodly amount. Elk is a step or two below Sambar but is the best of the NA species...... 300

Armand….I agree with JB. That is a beautiful crown stag you posted yesterday. Thanks!!

JB….I saw one of those ivory 110's like yours come up for auction one time. I don't remember what it went for, but evidently I didn't bid high enough. Someday I'll learn. I would REALLY like to have one of those in my collection!!

Dale….thanks for posting!! That one brings back memories. I remember you twisted my arm for a jigged buffalo 112 and I'm thinking you must have done the same thing for this one. :)

Craig….thanks for the lesson.

Today I'm posting another Buck stag 110. This one has very nice pinned stag, NS bolsters and a mirror finish blade.
