The Ashokan Gladius Challenge......

Boy-o-boy........sure is a good thing we're not fighting the Spartans!

Just came in from the shop....looooooong day! (2:00am)

Worked on the hand rub on the gladius most of the day......just about done.
Don't think I will have much time for a handle, but I will probably jam something on the end so I can stick it in the side of Matt's car.:D
Looking foward to a gladiatorial release this weekend!:D

Boy! What a great weekend!:D Ashokan sure is a blast.
There were about 5 or 6 gladius blades and I think 1 or 2 made over the weekend! Although we did not set any parameters for the challenge most of us agreed Al Gormly(spel.?) was the clear winner for his completed sword...including the turned cherry wood handle!:D Nice going Al...and the rest of you guys!!!
There were lots of pics taken...I'm sure some will show up in the next couple of days.
Good times...good times.:D

Chris, Thanks for the pics!:D Did you happen to catch any of the other gladius blades? That one of Al Gormly's(spel?) was very cool.

Chris, stop calling me Mr Purple!

It's Matt, to you!

I'll get my name for BF changed on the next renewal so it'll keep things straight, I promise.

Good to see you again, and here's a shameless plug for your dvd's:

Chris records the demonstrations at Ashokan, then transfers them to dvd. I have four of them, and they look and sound better than most of the other knifemaking dvd's own! WORTH VERY PENNY, AND MORE!!!!!!!

Thanks Chris, it was good to see you again.

first i think Mace needs to keep the Viking helmet on all the time:D
and i'm kicking my self for not going this year :grumpy:

Matt you plugged it now where do i get the dvd

I'll just let this pic speak for itself.:D
What would your caption be?
Friday night at Ashokan we were doing some forging and I kept wondering where Mike Spangler was. When Larry and I got to the bunk house we found Mike fast asleep. So we gave him a 2:am wake up call.:D
