The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Maybe it's an optical illusion, but the lock looks a little thin to me. Seems like there should be a bit more "meat" where the lock face engages the tang. Or is the handle "taller" than average and the lock just looks smaller?

Based on recommendations in Bob Terzuola's book and Mark's considerable experience, the amount of contact at that point should not be more than a certain amount before you have to relieve behind it in order to prevent lock rock. We had enough contact on the lock (over 1/8”) that we had to put some relief on it. I am erring on the high side of contact because my goal with this knife is a folder that will tolerate rough use without concern of developing wear or damage due to rough use.

We are going to my mom's farm for the day, but next week I will start a thread to discuss the folder and some of these design elements where we can dissect it a little bit better.

Nathan, will the lock bar cutout be on the outside as shown, or inside? Is there a real difference? Thanks
The cut out is on the outside, this keeps the compressive stress more in a line which reduces risk of buckling during extreme compression.

That's a neat looking piece, I'd buy one, but my question is why do you have so little arm hair?
Small round explosions burning it off? Playing with a potato gun and didn't cork it for ignition? A safety feature when working with heavy machinery? Perhaps a natural state like those weird cats?

Then again, maybe my arms are just overly hairy.
I'm part dolphin on my mom's side

I also literally shave that arm. In small amounts. Everyday. As part of a QC process here. Think about that the next time you cut food with your knife...

Bob Terzuola. That was a voice to text from the Chick fil-A parking lot on the way to Mom's. Also, I don't know how to spell (or apparently pronounce) Terzuola.

We had a really great visit today. I saw my sister for the first time since 2019 which was nice. She's unwell and it was good to visit and get some pictures.

That’s always good, cherish those moments. Last Sunday we finally got to see my grandma for the first time since 2019.
