The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

I wonder if gluing an Apple AirTag to the butt of the handle might work?

P.S.
Definitely could've helped the CPK'er who posted a while back about having his bag of CPKs stolen.
Dude. Did you really need to reopen that wound? I could still kill that m@@#%%@# f#$%!!!

ETA: Part about you in jest. 😅 Part about killing, not. 🤬 Okay, maybe not actually kill. Maim? Ugh, accept...

Oof... that was you? I honestly couldn't recall who it was.

Man, if I was in your shoes, I'd be removing the scales on my CPKs, drilling/machining a shallow hole inside one scale, juuust sized to fit something like an AirTag (or similar), then putting the scales back on. (Come to think of it, if you can find small versions, they might even fit in the skeletonization holes. Pad 'em so they don't rattle). No more lost/stolen CPKs.

IIRC, battery life is good for ~1 year? So, no different than getting in the habit of replacing CR2032s yearly, in equipment that uses them.

Trying to decide if I want to add popsicle sticks as an extra, to my order.

With the Terotuf scales, aside from your signature CPK contouring for a comfortable, secure grip, the material itself is grippy enough that it doesn't really need any added texturing (eg. The kind of texturing on the micarta scales of the UF2 and DEK1).

What about with the popsicle stick scales on the K20?

I don't generally swap out the Terotuf scales on any of my CPKs, but I'm thinking aside from practicing some double sword forms with them (and I'll definitely be trying some tameshigiri/practice cutting with them), I'll likely be setting these up on some kind of a display stand, and the popsicle sticks would look amazing, but I'd still want to take them down and play with them from time to time.

Nathan, are the popsicles in addition to TT?
Like an extra set of wood handles to go with your TT handles for $350?
I’m pretty sure that is how it reads in the preorder. Just want to be sure.

It is an extra set of scales. The sword comes with TT scales but if people want to order wood scales I'm making it an option. It is $350 and you will get an extra set of scales which can be installed on your sword as it leaves if you wish, but the sword comes with TT because that is the correct material.

The grip, weight, and durability of the wood that I will select for these scales will not be terrible. It will be a good legitimate handle scale choice, the TT will be better but it is objectively ugly and I understand why people might want wood. People who order wood will also get the TT in their shipment. Both are a reasonable functional choice.
