I'm going to try it again (I've sunk a lot of time into this material and it is fantastic) but we just had some issues with it on our DEK pre-order and I don't want to offer it again in an order again until we know those issues are all sorted out.

What does "crusty" actually denote? I need a visual . Pretty sure my crusty is dissimilar to your crusty.

Guessing a bit darker and/or streakier compared to the stuff taken from the inside.

It's a somewhat random and naturally occurring color variation. They're all going to be a little different

Everyone, these scales were ordered as crusty and you’re correct, the inside of these scales isn’t a liner, it’s the outer portion of the slab and is the aged color.

I was thinking a mirror polish FK3 would allow me to signal re-supply choppers and combat support aircraft on my missions when coms are down, and my signal mirror has taken shrapnel.

Sure it does. Have you seen the edges on some of Yoko's pics?

He's just the first that comes to mind. There are a few others who've posted photos of their ultra refined mirror edges. If you can do that to the 1/8" of the edge, you can do that to the rest of the knife... if you have the time.
