The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

My question keeps getting stepped over: what is the timeline on the Shivs at the moment, and are there any proof of life photos yet?
They are in production
No, there are no proof of life photos.

If you would like a refund of your deposit please let me know

Hi Nathan,
In the event someone drops out from buying a Shiv, I would like to purchase one. I realize there is probably many more in front of me, but I thought I would ask anyway. BTW, I love the DEK1 I received the other day. This a beautiful knife and it's very capable. I'm impressed with your team's work. :)

I have been increasingly afraid that the influx of new CPK fans may drive Nathan to quit.

Just a lot of new-ish folks in the last year or so who have different expectations - they want availability when they want it, they demand constant updates, they get butthurt when they see people getting preorder fulfillments that were made 12-24 months prior and they can't get the same thing or when they're not fast enough to score on Fridays and then demand he change his whole system, they ask questions that are already answered in stickied threads... and all this sort of thing is the sort of headache that Nathan hates the most, and I can't blame him.

To be honest, I'm not seeing that much "entitled" behavior from new folks by and large, and I deal with site-wide issues on the forums as a whole, daily.
Sure, there's a couple that have given me a headache over the past few months, but I'd say relatively few as numbers go. And they usually don't stick around long.

I think Nathan can let folks know if and when he's had enough of the b.s...I do my best to filter out some and try to keep it to a minimum, but it's his and Jo's living room,,,and his call.

CPK pre-orders are best when you wish to order your dream blade, pay up, forget about it, and get a happy little surprise in the mail some time later down the line. If that arrangement doesn't suit you, then the Friday sales should be where you bend head to trough.

It's okay. I like the new folks. People are entitled to ask questions, but maybe not always entitled to answers.

I'm a human being, just like everybody else here (except Timmy, who is a lizard) and I don't like stress or pressure more than anybody else. But it's things like electrical problems and a machine down and I just accidently crunched the building with the forklift and it's a problem of "load bearing" magnitude that has me stressed, not questions. I am stressed and tired. We just drove home from Chicago with this machine in an overloaded trailer and a truck that beat the crap out of us for 12 hours. So, yeah, just like anybody else, I'm stressed, sore and spread thin. If the pre-orders start to bother people or hurt my reputation, I'll stop doing them, but that's a problem (and solution) of my own creation, I don't blame anyone. I'm not going to go make work in process pictures right now, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Right now it's hot and humid and I'm going to go back outside and help Mark finish digging a grave for his dog and I'll leave this machine under a tarp until Ben gets back into town next week so maybe I don't actually push the entire damn wall down by accident.

My back hurts and I'm hot, but I'm happy and we're thriving here. Jo, Mark, Sadie, Ben, Bo, Tanto and I appreciate all of you guys. Well, Sadie doesn't...

I know, it's like a FREE KNIFE!

Well not free, but you already did the paying and the crying long enough ago that it feels that way!

Nate, please express our condolences to Mark. That's never a good day.

Agree with Blues, Sorry for his loss. Dogs are better than most people in my book.

I was just making a joke. I can’t say how it landed for anyone but that was my intention. It’s really none of my business and we all know Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist can handle whatever comes his way, however he feels is appropriate(booger, no booger, or other). I certainly don’t claim to have any insight into the mind of an evil genius. Now I’ll get off your thread and quit derailing it. #notnathan
