The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

what 3d modeling software do youuse? does it spit out G and M code?

what software should I invest in learning for manufacturing??

Pro engineer

Yes

Probably SolidWorks and one of the machining plugins or perhaps an old seat of mastercam 10

Will FK3 have an S grind?
Probably

I'm tooling that up now and I want to incorporate that geometry but with a different process.

I've wondered about this for some time but could you please post/show a simple drawn out S grind profile?

Which of your CPK patterns that are already out there actually have an S grind?

I was thinking probably the Behemother and the Comp Cutter? I also think I remember you saying also that Jo's "special project" KOD Behemoth had an S grind?

Guide to Knife Grinds

#stillnotnathan:

- HDFK (N.A.S.K for those who know)
- Competition Chopper
- EDC2
- Possibly every CPK-Chopper made up till 2018-2019 (not 100% certain about the prototype HC: Heavy Chopper), see below:

The original Shiv, UF and Field Knife weren't even ground, they were just "as machined". Today our work is given a light hand grind to make a convex geometry at the shoulders and some get a shallow S grind as well. Despite being production knives these grinds go through the same manual finishing progressions of a fully hand made knife.
