The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Hey Nathan, now that Canada is boycotting the whiskey made in my back yard there is more of it at home. I drank the extra I found on a shelf. It was solid, but not what I remember from 10-15 years ago.

Do you ever think some of your coolest shit is already made? I’d think no as tools and steel keep progressing, but the simplicity of things sometimes calls.

Hi Nathan, have you had a chance to test Busse’s SR3V? How does it perform in terms of wear resistance and edge stability (rolling/chipping resistance)?

This is a very loaded question, and I don't want to touch it except to say that, yes, I have. Several pieces. It's fine. They're very much like my pre-Delta heat treat, which is pretty good.

I would encourage anyone who says "SR3V is even harder than Delta 3V! How did they achieve this level of ductility that's even harder than Nate's" to be a little skeptical about that claim. Side by side testing on a calibrated tester (this is both an objective measurement and also comparative side by side testing) has demonstrated no difference here.

You can buy his work and rest easy knowing that he does good work, it is competently executed, and it will serve you well. I would use it.
