OK:

Total amount spent of the knives you own/number of knives you own = ???

In my case it's:

$7,695/16= $480.94

How about you?

One more question.. what is your least expensive and most expensive knife?

Mine:
Spyderco Manix 2 S110V $120
Rockstead SHIN YXR7 $1000

Are you inviting thieves to your place? :D

Mine (folders):
Least expensive: ~$20 kershaw brawler or thermite
Most expensive: $350 Hinderer XM-18 3.5" (bought 2nd handed but lnib)
Most in the $100-$250 range
Average: ~$100 per knife

$41,072.26/205= $200.35

Least expensive: Boker Magnum 1911 (novelty knife) $13
Most expensive: Benchmade 707-161 Sequel $1,020

I've got a little bit of everything...Benchmade (mostly), Spyderco, Zero Tolerance, Kershaw, Gerber, Chris Reeve, Boker, Schrade, Cold Steel, Hinderer, Kabar, Kizer, Lone Wolf, Microtech, Ontario, Piranha, ProTech, & Sog

$650 / 7 = $92 average cost

Least expensive: $15 Mora Companion

Most expensive: $220 Southern Grind Spider Monkey

Without those two outliers, average cost would be $83 ($415 / 5)

Funny thing is, I've sold off a 3rd of my collection (102 knives) and the average cost of those was $200.65, almost identical to the average of the ones I still have. Those ranged in price from $50-$600.

$354 /18=$20 rounded. The most expensive one I own is a Spyderco Delica 4, paid @ $54 some years ago, and least expensive, $7 for a Mora Clipper. This doesn't count multi-tools or SAKs, of which I have considerably more.

FOLDERS:
11/$1425/$129.55
Least expensive-Manix 2 LWTB/$85
Most expensive-Benchmade 940-1/$270

FIXED:
4/$415/$103.75
Least expensive-CRKT Folts Minimalist/$25
Most expensive-Spyderco Sprig/$180

I'm not going to actually do the math, that's too much work, but I'll make a broad estimate. I used to have a lot of cheap knives but as the collection grew I gave them away to family and friends.

I'd say the average is around $125-150? I have a lot of G-10 Spydercos (quite a few have actually gone up in value, which I never expected when I bought them), some mid-to-higher-end production folders from all the major companies, and a few mid-tech folders. A handful of low-to-mid-end production fixed blades. No customs.

My most expensive knives are the few midtechs: Tolk (which I just bought), Umnumzaan, Liong Mah Warrior.

As for cheapest ... I'll have to edit this post when I get home. I kept one of my cheapo assisted knives whose name I can't remember because I love the hawkbill blade shape. The knife is otherwise awful and I'm sure it's basically worthless but I'll look it up. :)

EDIT: I just remembered what it was. Meyerco Dirk Pinkerton Hawkbill. $26.95 on BladeHQ.

Interesting question! I took a guess before tallying things up, and was only off by $14: The average cost for my current collection is $114 (I guessed $100).

Most expensive: John Lloyd custom shadow Dogleg Jack ($315)
Least expensive: Opinel No.8 ($15)

I'd love to see where folks' current EDC (be it today, if you rotate, or every day, if you don't) falls within your range. Mine is an Emerson Mini QCQ-7BW, at $170.

Before I got "the bug" $50-100. Since I got "the bug" probably about $150. Now that said even with "the bug" I purchased a Buck 0342 for $50 and a Ka-Bar USN stamped standard issue sized blade for $65 as well as a Manix 2 in S100V I just scored off the exchange for $85. So realistically if those count I'm probably closer to $125 average, maybe lees, but the quality of what I am getting for my money is more then doubled.

$550, give or take. Most expensive, Tom Mayo 6K Covert. Least, keychain pocket knife I got as a give overseas. Both of which I like very much!!

Average cost $89.80.

Least expensive $10.00. An old worn out Wostenholm that I bought at a flea market. Both blades are sharpened down to toothpicks.

Most expensive $500.00. Ken Coats custom slipjoint.

I'm carrying two knives today. One cost $77.95 and the other cost $325.00.

Interesting thread. I had never taken a look at those figures before. My average surprises me. I thought it would be higher.

Least expensive quality knife, 200 year old pearl Sleeveboard Lobster $10, I have many old traditionals that I paid an average of $3 for and most are worth at the very least 10 X what I paid my most expensive large Sebenza 21 with inlay $500 and then there's around 300+ knives in the collection. I figure about $12K overall value maybe $4K spent.

I'm to lazy to do the math but I'll admit to this, averaged out roughly I try not to spend more than $10 on any vintage folder which makes up about 70% of my collection, Fixed blades about 5% of the collection with customs and tactical making up about 25%.

Some are worth more as a collection than they are individually and some are standalone stars, like the Benchmark Rolox. I gotta admit if I had to place a value on my collection and the average cost per knife I'd be incapable and in all honesty the thought of tryin' gives me a headache. :) I do enjoy seein' how everyone evaluates their collections.

I have a buddy who 3 years ago bought a $300 set from the guy that sells on tv at 3 am. He called me to tell me he just got a delivery of $3K worth of knives, when I got there and he showed me what he got and I broke out in hysterical laughter. He was so pissed when I told him he didn't even have $300 with of junk, more like $20 worth of throwaways. To this day he's sold maybe a half a dozen at $3 each, the rest he's been giving away as Xmas presents and for everyone he knows birthdays. He's tried to give me a few he thought were great knives and I gave them back.

Pics, anyone got any pics?
