Come on, tell us how you REALLY feel.....I don't know Eric, , don't know you, and don't really care either way. I have seen the Swamp Rat line, and their ok. I wouldnt buy one, but thats just me. However, if I had a bad deal, and aired it in a public forum, all piss and vinegar like you did, but then had a positive, professional response from the offending party, I wouldnt keep pissing all over them, or trashing their product. At some point , people will start to think your an a-hole. This is something mommy shoulda told ya waayyy back. Eric, your a good man to answer this guys complaint, and offer resolution, but there are a lot of people who will pass up a product because of what they consider to be ridiculously long wait, I am lucky to have no need for one of your knives, but if I did, I'm sorry to say, I'd go with the next best thing just to avoid the wait. I am an impatient man, and obviously, not the only one.
 
I wait from 17 october to 27 december last year - 8 1/2 weeks. Knife is great. But I was really abset that I continiously was told that my knife is coming next few days for almost all this period of time. I e-mail to Eric several times, I raise this issue here and always was told that it is coming just next few days and always my expectations did not met. Finaly I give up and forget about it, and finally it come.

Problem here I see that Eric did not say clear and honest that real waiting time is about 9 weeks (or whatever it is - not 3 weeks for sure). If so then nobody will expect it to come in 2-3 weeks and be abset. If you are not geting it in proposed time you starting worry what happened and so on.

Randall have few years line and it does not affect their bussiness I think, why Swamp Rat can not say that you have to wait 4 monthes - then if you get it in 8 weeks it will be nice surprize!

I like that knife, too. I emailed some time back and it was going to be 8-12 weeks. I haven't placed the order yet. I got good customer service via email. The rep was very helpful, even though the knife was going to take a while.
 
Amazing to me that everyone seems "surprised" and "mislead" at the delivery issues with the Battle Rats, when it was kept on the forefront of the Swamp Rat forums by Eric.

There were issues with these knives, information was supplied openly and frequently, and still............ :rolleyes:
 
I think eda has some legitimate complaints that he chose to vent it in public. Although it is not how I would have done it, his initial post could have been the entire length of the thread. If he was complaining about a "Cool Steel Trailmeister", for example, would anyone have cared that much? I wonder if a company representative would have even bothered to responded to his complaint? Actually, I don't really wonder because I am already certain the answer is "NO".


I don't own a Swamp Rat knife, but I probably will get one now. It appears that this company has the right attitude toward their customers, even the disgruntled ones. So the knife was back-ordered, at least they didn't charge it six weeks in advance and make him wait. I do wonder if the knife arrived a couple of weeks ahead of the anticipated delay, would it have met the customer's expectations in terms of quality and appearance?

Ok, I'm posting again, I know I said I wouldn't ( I guess I lied ;) ) But I did want to clarify something.

Yes, we have screwed up on our delivery times in the past. We are trying to rectify that now, yes we have screwed up other things in the past, we are a small growing company and some things get screwed up. We are human. We do our best, but sometimes things do go wrong.

I am more than willing to discuss problems that have arisen if people email me, I prefer not to discuss them on the forums as ultimately they are our fault and I don't want to sound like we are blaming others for our problems. However, I haven't received emails from any of the "negative" people in this thread to see what any of the reasons are. It is your option to complain if you want, I'd rather try and fix the problem.

I appreciate everyone's support also, but I think this thread has run it's course. My offer still stands for Eda to email me so I can address any issues and take care of any problems. My offer still stands if Owen would ever want to discuss any issues. So far I haven't received emails from either of you if you emailed me please try again because I haven't received them.

More than anything else, I get the point, people are upset because they had to wait for their orders(whether they were charged or not).

I've learned from that so I guess that is a good thing.

Let me put more word to explain why I was upset.

I ordered beautifull knife from respected company and on the forum it was annonsed thet all Swamp Rat folders were shipped and will come probably next Monday - next Monday I come home at my lunchtime to wait for postwoman with my beatufull knife. She did not bring anything, I try same next day - nothing, Wed nothing again. I assume that my knife was shipped as it was told on forum. I start worring what is going on with my order. I ask you and was told again that sorry for this but we just shipped your knife today or will do thid tommorow for sure. I wait fro postwomen again...

Now repeat this several times in you mind and you'll probably see that this is bit different then - "people are upset because they had to wait ". I was upset that:
1. Nobody really know what is going on with my order
2. I repeatedly was told that knife was shipped just right now - and my expectations were not met.

Now would I be upset if I know at the begining that knife will came in 8 and half week - so I just have to wait as you sad. No I would not be upset. This is not simple about wait time.

As well as knife itself - it is perfect.

If my memory serves me, your problem arose because your knife was one of the LE Rat Traps. We were having trouble getting the LE's lasered. I was unaware of this when I gave you the updates.

As I said, mistakes have been made, this one by me. I'm sorry for this.

I'm glad that you like the knife though

Well, I mean that as in everyone who has made allegations of lying and misleading. If one is to make those allegations, one should fully understand the situation, or stay out.

Lying implies and demands intentional deceit. Making a statement based on ones best knowledge, and then being wrong, is not lying.

If one cannot understand the distinction, one should surely learn it before making allegations.

Delivery times are given based on best knowledge at the time. Between time given and actualy delivery, things can happen, pure and simple. Those factors, and their obvious impact on the original time quote given, do not make the original a lie.

The original poster has not yet determined if he has legal ownership of the knife, and was offering it for sale.

I find it remarkedly interesting that neither person asked to forward their inforrmation so Eric could check the nature of thier situations has done so.

Why is that??

Still...sorry about that one, Mike. I can see where you were coming from about ownership not being established.
 
I should add to my comments few points, it sounds too negative which I don't want it to be:

Knife I have is way beyond price I paid and this is because, instead of using common distribution channels, Swamp Rat directly selling knives to customer and this is the reason for differens between Swamp Rat delivery time and New Grapham (Mery Beth and Mike are best). And for knives from NG I pay probably twice then I would pay to manifacturer (unfortunately no one else using direct distribution). There are no all this logistic infrastructure between me and Swamp Rat which allows to accumulate product and make it possible to deliver it right away to the customer. However, it is just fiction because time to produce knife and deliver is same I am just not able to order it until it ready for "fast" delivery. And I am perfectly agree to give up this to get very good knife for price nobody else can offer.

Also as I understand it is Eric only who manage shipments and communicate with customers and, I can imagine, doing everything else. And this is also affect the price in good for me way. Control everything by one man may be just impossible.

I think it should be stated somewhere that you can not expect 24 hour answer to you order status request. If somebody tell me - we will answer your question in three days (to keep this amaizing price) - it is fine with me. And if knife is not coming for several weeks - it is probably OK, don't be upset etc...

"Usual shiping time 3-4 weeks but you may expect delay for 9 weeks in some cases when it is popular model. If you knife is not coming - better wait few weeks before contacting SR" - then I will not worry if this happen...

Of course, it will be better to inform customers by e-mail if delay happen, if it is possible.

...But our postwomen probably start thinking that I am like crazy - jumping out of the door and asking them all the time where is package from Swamp Rat for few weeks. Because of what I already told before...

Well, I MAILED my order for a Battle Rat on 4/7/05. The web ordering page clearly states an 8-12 week wait is very possible. I received my BR today, complete with the sheath that some have been shorted/delayed.

Now maybe it's time for the Ratweiler. ;)
