The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

Anyone know the factory edge angle of the f3ns?

Don't need to sharpen it yet but curious for when I do.
The Sharpie method works best for me. The difference between the angle markings on the Wicked Edge and those on my digital angle reader can be more than an entire degree and the fact that I’ve rarely found a factory edge to be a whole number according to my angle reader makes the known angle of a factory edge just a starting point

Among the 182 pages in this thread I seem to recall someone posting 18* per side.

I think there should have been a picture attached to this question. And maybe all the responses too. Lol!
OK, Phil, here's a blade pic of the aforementioned 111, re-profiled to 17 dps.

I reprifile all mine to 19dps. Prolly closer to 17 really cause of blade height. But, it never requires much work. They are not all exactly the same from shiro though. But they are all close to 20. After I go to 19 on my gatco, I touch up using a spyderco sharpmaker which is 20 dps. Works for me as I don’t abuse mine. Use but not abuse. Every so often, a quick touch up to bring the micro shoulder back a little and it touches up easy again.

Wondering if anyone here has experience with the Hation Zero. Would love to know your thoughts on how it compares with some of the larger models. There is one available now from a non-BF supporting dealer, and I was thinking that something smaller than the F3 might be the right carry for lighter days.

I had the Neil NL which is the same, size wise. It was a great size and blade length. Just about perfect in my mind. However, it was EXTREMELY sensitive to lock bar pressure. Because it is smaller, there is much less room for error in gripping it to deploy. It was awkward for me even after weeks of playing with it. Now if there was an F3 on a Neon frame, then to me, it would be the perfect edc knife. I loved it, but just couldn’t get comfortable with it.

I’ve got a neon zero. I love it. A lot. I didn’t have any trouble with the harder deployment, I guess just the way I hold it from day one. On days I only carry one clipped knife, that’s it. Usually, I carry a traditional and a Hati, as the array of sizes fit my use better, but the neon size knife is a wonderful size for single knife carry. Almost disappears in the pocket and performs better than it’s size would indicate. It’s thin, light. The pocket clip was my biggest issue. It’s much tighter than the larger brethren. That’s a good thing, as you have less chance of losing it. But it was tough for me. I added a simple lanyard loop and that problem is gone. I always said if reeves made a size between the small and large sebenza, that would be the end all knife for me, and the zero is that knife (save it’s a flipper).

Question thats prolly already been answered.

What are you guys using to on the pivots on hati R’s? Does it need anything? Problems with it loosening over time with nothing?

It held tight after the first disassembly but this time, the locktite residue is about gone and i am afraid it may loosen some over time. If it does, I’d like to know what y’all use that isn’t too bad to get apart later on. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback. I went ahead and put the Hati on order, as I didn't want to risk it going out of stock while I waffled about the size. I like my micarta F3 a lot, and it's a little big in the pocket for some days...Hoping this fills that niche for me!

I have seen some reviews that mention the same thing. Frankly, I've yet to own a flipper RIL that hasn't taken me a few days to get used to my holding position for opening. Not to mention closing them without losing a thumb :p

I sort of prefer nothing on the pivot screws. I just snug them up with my thumbnail every now and then. Bit if you want to use some sort of thread locker, blue locktite, sparingly, is all.

That's exactly how I deal with mine, TRfromMT TRfromMT . I've never been a fan of thread-locker in my knives and only use it on those that are extremely drifty . I'd much rather check my pivot in the morning and make an adjustment if necessary than deal with breaking it loose when doing maintenance. The great thing about Shirogorov pivots is it's so easy to do just what you described and snug up a Pacman screw with my thumbnail to take up any play I might notice whenever.

For a light alternative to LocTite, you might try a bit of nail polish.

Same with me..Just finger pressure every once in a while to check/snug up the screw. I really can't remember one getting loose though. My Neon is in my pocket every day and it stays snug.
Nice custom Pompous!
