The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

B Bacchus , my NeOn is the UltraLite version of the original NeOn Lite. It has open back, single standoff construction, as opposed to the original with its back spacer. For vintage, I bought the knife in Jan, 2018 from the Exchange just days after the seller had received it new from R1. The lanyard attachment is set up just like the F95's with the hole only in the show side. The UL's were available mostly in S30V with at least one run done in Elmax. I very much prefer my UL for its flow-through construction and Shiro does such a good job with their heat treats that I'm perfectly content with its S30V blade. My F3 Python has the same blade steel.

EDIT: Just re-read your post, and, no, my knife has no interior milling.

ChazzyP ChazzyP , thanks a lot for the details and extra pictures. That's a fine little Bear indeed!

Apparently the new annual (2024) bead design is a bit less spiky than the previous one. Maybe even comfortable enough for some kind of bracelet. I guess 6 or 7 beads might be enough for a tryout.

The recent discussion inspired me to carry the R20 (based on NeON Zero) today. 🙃

The model feels very refined and the only way to improve it (a tiny bit) I can think of is a symmetrical groove on the inner side of the front scale — mostly to make access to the lock a little easier.

The feature became rather common for production knives, not only for tab-lock models (111, Stellar, Astrum), but for the Persian-style Q-series (including the budget Ursus line) as well:

Well, I finally decided to join the club. I picked up a shiro the other day and I'm really liking it. I almost bought one at blade show earlier this year but decided I had already spent enough money. Anyways, I haven't seen photos of this one on bladeforums so I thought I would share. This is the Quantum Ursus in Curly Birch.

I just received the new version of the Monkey Edge frag pattern F95! This version is a little more basic than the previous F95NL version coming with Elmax instead of M390 and no internal milling of the frame but it’s still nice and light due to the external milling and thin 3.5mm blade stock. I’ve had great experience with Shiro’s Elmax on an F3 so I’m actually happy about the steel choice!

EKnives just got a restock on some Quantum Ursus - if folks were looking for them - not sure how hard Quantum's are to obtain, but seem rare. I also don't know much about Shirogorov blades, just figured I'd pass on the info.

I like to come by this thread and drool. I wish it wasn't such a damn nightmare getting knives over the border into Canada. Then again, I'd probably go bankrupt if I had access to Shiros. They look perfect!

FYI, the market seems currently awash with Quantum Ursus variants, quite a few showing at the several dealers easily found stocking them. BF rules prohibit "deal spotting" but I don't think it qualifies as such mentioning that the one you cited seems to have the highest prices on those knives. ;)

Sorry about that, I didn't know that was against the rules. And good to know the market is saturated, again, not knowing the brand (other than folks posting on BF), but reading through, they seem very desirable, so I assumed hard to get.

Not long ago Knifecenter ran a sale on their inlay version of the Quantum Ursus and you never see new Shiro’s on sale at a dealer, the market is definitely full of Urus variants! Pretty safe to say they should end that line of knives and put focus elsewhere but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a new color or wood inlay Ursus in another month 😁.
