the becker etch how to. NEW TECHNIQUE AND PICS POST #25

Clich,
What do you think about using some of those "textured foam paint rollers" they sell?

Also, In your first couple posts, describing the "snakeskin" one, you said you dabbed the cotton ball "randomly". Can you describe this with a bit more detail?

I think I'm going to do this to my BK16, but I need to learn to do it myself. I appreciate you doing my Potbelly...that one I was scared to do on my own. I found a couple crap knives in my garage...I'm going to strip them for practice before doing the 16.

I am assuming that this would be the best method to use if I am planning on etching words and a image onto my BK2 blade, am I correct or is there a different method for that?

Id go with some PCB enchant from radioshack for that.

I just want to be sure cause I'm getting ready to do it. So should I just follow clich's steps here but use PCB instead of blue?

Your etching words right? If you are just make sure you mask off the rest of the blade really good once your done with that just pour the PCB ( hey i spelled it right :D ) into Some kind of tank ( not aluminum btw. ) let it sit in for about 10 mins. Pull it out, clean it, and put it back in. Do that untill your happy with how deep it is.

You bumped a 2 year old thread for that? Alrighty then.

Really is too bad that we lost clich.

As long as this one's back, we might as well keep it on topic, and add some more tips...

I've been doing a fair amount of etching. Turns out regular ole rattle can spray paint or enamel make a fine resist, and cleans up nicely with paint stripper, which you've already used if you're etching, most likely. You can also pick up a large battery cheap at a battery supply store, and a couple alligator clips, and do a DC etch, which is a lot faster, but harder to get even unless you also get a bunch of makeup pads.

Ha! Was just refreshing my memory on the clich method for a mod project I'm planning, and failed to recognize the 2012 date of the question I was answering.

It's all good man, it is a worthy thread to bump.

Would the gun blue/bleach method be good for using on the laser etched logos to deepen them?

All my Beckers aside from my Machax I've been lucky to get roll stamped ones. Really want to strip the machax of its coating and basically only have some blue and bleach handy and sadly too broke to purchase anything else
