The Beer Scout Knife

I really like the all steel 15's. I'm hoping for brassless beer scouts this round. That little cap lifter is handier for a lot more than just crackin' a beer. I carry a crown lifter quite often.

I am excited! I missed the first Beer Scout run entirely, but I am in for two this time. :D
I went for the Mystery Jig bone and Mystery Acrylic.

So looks like the oily creek bone has been locked but still has green bars like it was not full yet.. Anyone know if that handle material got canceled?

Best to ask the vendor directly (not here), for clear information. :)

I preordered one, in Mystery Jigged Bone.

I've kind of avoided the Beer Scout because although I like the idea of sheepsfoot blades, and bottle openers, and easy-open notches. I don't love bails, and the 15 frame isn't my absolute favorite, at least in regard to what's been made so far. I am kind of leery of jackknives for their protruding tangs (everybody's got their pet issues) so the beer scout just isn't all that exciting for me. Then again, the secondary market for these is fast and furious, so heretofore, picking one up to try has been kind of a pricey proposition for something I wasn't sure whether I'd love. I think I'll get one this run, though. If I love it? Sweet. If it doesn't excite me, I can sell the thing and probably won't lose much. If I decide I really love the pattern but am not stoked about the jigged bone? Well, they've made plenty of these already, and probably plenty more are on the way, so I bet some horse trading could get me what I think I'd want.

Looking forward to the chance to try one! (And I have some weeks of breathing room to figure out how I'm going to introduce this one to my wife ;) )

Probably going to be days or weeks before we know for sure.

I emailed them about it. This is the response that I received.

"That one is almost certainly going to be taken off my Early Reserve. If it comes off the ER, I won't make it."

I hope it's okay that I shared that, in hopes of trying to save them the time of having to answer the same question repeatedly. Btw, their cs seems awesome as they always answer emails promptly.

Thanks for posting the information. I was wondering the same thing.... in the back of my mind I thinking about posts in another thread about GEC cutting back SFO's this year. It's unfortunate because the #15 Boys Knife and the Beerscout will have the same cover material so I'm only going to preorder 2 of these (jig bone and wood). If GEC offered an SFO on these I would get the regular production one's I already reserved and add 1-2 SFO's.

CK's customer service is top notch!

Yeah, I ONLY buy from CK anymore. Mike's a great guy and his tastes in SFO mirrors almost exactly my tastes.

If the Oily Bone SFO is a no-go I'll probably not buy from this batch. That one definitely caught my eye...

Oily creek bone is my only current reservation. Completely understand if the demands on production can't accommodate anything additional. I'm going to remain hopeful until the end as a shield less and bail less oily creek bone would be a very attractive user.

Signed up for Jigged Bone, Wood, and Micarta with a maybe for Acrylic. I was late to the party last year and had to watch the BST like a hawk to get a Tortise Shell and then a Sawcut Bone. Still two of my favorite knives and they get carried at least one a week (usually on Fridays).

I just started home brewing as well, so obviously I need plenty of these on hand to make sure that openers are always close at hand.

I'll be excited to have one of these back in my hands. This model got me into traditional knives and I stupidly got rid of mine. Well, got rid of one and helped a buddy out who was looking for one.

I understand what you mean and I think your strategy for getting one this time round is correct.

Usually, I dislike bails/shackles of any kind on a knife, but with this knife I find the feature useful as a user. I can clip it on to my small pack for an outing but mainly it lives on a nail in the kitchen. There it awaits duty, slicing citrus fruits for drinks or juicing and the opener 'beheads' numerous beers and ciders, so in this way it is always to hand and the bail excels. Although I really like the Ivory Bone I think I might've opted for wood instead, it's tougher. I'm a bit disappointed to note the centre pins on both slabs are showing cracks and I have never dropped it or slammed it down. Maybe the tough springs have played a role here?

Thanks, Will

I've never carried a Beer Scout... is it off base to plan on removing the bail and carry bare (no slip)? Has anyone pulled the bail off and later decided that was a mistake for some reason?

I don't think there's anything wrong with removing the bail if it's not your thing. I've seen a few beer scouts and NAVY knives that have been modified this way and they look fine. I only have one ( a gun scout) and when I do carry it its in a small CK slip. I don't find either the bail or slip to be a hindrance but it's also my least carried knife( out of the five I have). If you plan on taking the bail off any reason not to go with the boys knife since it is built with no bail? Unless you really like the beer scout knife shield the boys knife could be a good option that's functional while still looking good.

CBR the first run of "Beer Scout Knives" has a removable bail. I'd expect this next run to be the same way. The bail on these is basically a D-ring that clips into a lanyard tube.

Hey guys, Im interested in picking up a couple of the new run on these.

Can I get a PM on where to preorder?

Ive been trying to get on GEC's website, but it wont connect for some reason.

Thanks in advance! :D

Okay, thanks for the info - I was thinking about pulling the bail off and running a small piece of leather in the D-ring hole. Maybe I will just start with what Stonebeards doing. Thanks for the info - I was curious because I was looking at accessories. I'm probably jumping ahead a bit, but it's nice to have everything sorted out so when it arrives I'm good to go.
