The Beer Scout Knife

Doing a little research on Bloodwood, a certain paragraph caught my attention - “Allergies/Toxicity: The wood’s dust has been reported as occasionally causing effects such as thirst and salivation,…”
I couldn’t think of more apropos symptoms as THIRST & SALIVATION for a caplifter.
I'm feelin' a bit symptomatic. Hello Hires Root Beer & 3 or 4 #15's. (My dad's beer of choice)

Looking at my 15 that I'm carrying today. It seems like the EO notch would get really close to the sharp edge of the blade with the sheepsfoot being so narrow. Doesn't seem like it in the pictures though. Guess I will see for myself in a couple months. I'm sure it's not a problem, but it sure looks that way just looking at a non-EO version.

The kick of the tang gets knocked down a bit so that the blade sits lower in the frame.

I must say that I've been looking forward to getting my hands on a traditional sheepsfoot with caplifter in Ebony. I can't say its a grail. It's been obtainable just not at a price point I was willing to pay. I'm happy to see this going into production. It appears that GEC is paying attention to what some of us knife nuts really want. This will be my first GEC and I'm sure not the last.

I am a sucker for knives with cap lifters and/or can openers and am ordering one with the micarta scales and one with the ivory bone. One of my regular carry knives is a stag-handled Schatt & Morgan Scout that gets plenty of use when I am using the grill or smoking meat. I can open bottles and punch holes in cans, both of which are handy for outdoor cooking. Not to mention opening bags of charcoal and making kindling. I like the idea of using the micarta Beer Scout for those duties.

My thoughts and order exactly

Absolutely. The #15 Radio Knife (or even better Radio Jack) is a perfect pocket knife for me. The sheep foot version may replace the clip point as a favorite.

And yup, I used mine while grilling steaks for Mother's Day.

Random thought, are the cap lifters stainless on GECs?

If you mean the "GEC" branded ones that use 440c, I'm not sure. But I also don't think they've ever made a #15 with the "GEC" branding, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe they've all been Tidiute or Northfield which use 1095 and the caplifter is 1095 as well.

Ive never seen a 15 in the GEC marked knives.
