The Beer Scout Knife

I've had two of Evan's Beerlows. I must have the most rare one left. And no, I did not sacrifice the TC. Someone else did.

OK. Put Evan back up on the Mt. Rushmore of Beerlows. I know a lot of people would draw the line at sacrificing a TC Barlow. But that is a beautiful Barlow knife, no matter how "untraditional" it may be. You are fortunate to have that knife, Jake! I hope you use it well.

OK, so enough horsing around about the beerlows, yes they are awesome, I've owned one, and they also have their own thread. About the GEC beer scout knives, I can't wait to see some wood slabs, any pics of WIP on those yet?

The Sunbrites were first up. One dealer said that others, including some SFOs were on the way. But I've seen no pictures of Barry's Beerlow. I keep checking, because it sounds beautiful!

Also, which I forgot about cause I don't any ordered, the cocobola and ebony.

Maybe they do the acrylics together, then bone or woods together (and then the other), to keep the finishing steps the most similar for setup speed and efficacy. Not sure where the micarta slots in there.

The bail is removable, and something like half of the different SFO's do not have the "Beer Scout Knife" logo (some say "Scout" and some are blank and some have no shield at all, iirc).

Where is your Piggy Bank, now??
I went back and looked at the list of SFOs. Some nice options there, but I still don't see a combo that really fits me. Still, looks like a nice design overall. Pigs will be staying in the bank for now.

Phillll, those are great. Is that the one you had in your pocket at BLADE?

About the Beer Scouts.... this is my first time getting into a run of knives. I got in on it in early May. I can't wait to see some pictures of the Ebony in production. Very exciting times! I'm afraid I've entered the slippery GEC slope I was warned about....

Thanks, Aaron. The interior ivory knife in the photo is indeed mine, but not the one you saw. You saw this one :D:thumbup:

I'm not usually into acrylics, but I can't help getting excited about the tortoise acrylic scouts that are coming. The stuff GEC is using is some of the best imitation I've seen!

Well, if we're talking about "Beerlows", I'm pretty certain Evan made the first one, since GEC hasn't made any caplifters with a Barlow Bolster. I think Evan was also the first one to make a "Sheeplifter", which is what these Beer Scouts are. If memory serves me correct, GEC had done caplifters with clips and spears, and then Evan modified a few with a sheepsfoot and everyone wanted one, and after that GEC ran a few sheeplifter scouts for the Rendezvous last year.

I agree! The tortoise shell version is the one I might not be able to resist!

Agreed.

Back when the reserve list first hit I put in for an ivory smooth bone. However, it looks like this pattern will be the birth knife for my daughter. If my wife doesn't go into labor we will induce labor the 2nd. Maybe it will be the ivory bone after all. If not, I'll be hunting for which ever one it is.
