The big bad wolf...

I really don't know what to think about this. Someone suggested that the photo had been manipulated. I'm a commercial artist by profession, so I spend a lot of time using Photoshop for various things. I have to say that, on the one hand, if this is a phony, it's one of the better ones that I've seen. On the other hand, if that wolf is 260 pounds, it's a world record. If it is the largest wolf ever seen, then why hasn't it made the news?

Tell me this....if that pic wasn't chopped....where is the hunter's other leg????

The only option would be that he is standing facing the left of the picture with legs perfectly in line....which would mean that he has turned his upper body 90 degrees to hold that wold up.......which doesn't make an ounce of sense. Why would you hold a nearly 300lb animal in an awkward as hell position?

After looking closer you can't see his foot protruding out to the left of the wolf's back paw.....which it would have to be doing if he was facing to the left of the picture.....total fake.

After looking again, look how smooth the line is on the underside of the tail......find a line anywhere in that picture that is that clear.....

Alanp,

I just don't know. I agree with your observations on the guys position, and wondered about the missing foot myself. Yet the guy does look like he's bending backwards as if holding up a lot of weight. I could go either way on the tail. Take a look at the rest of the fur edges on that animal: they're soft and feathered as they should be. I only bring this up because, if the wolf was extracted from another photo, most people wouldn't take the time -- or have the knowledge -- to feather the edges that well. I have special (expensive) masking programs to do that: maybe someone else used something similar. I just don't know.

One of the big problems here (to me) is that we're looking at a low quality 72 dpi jpeg. If I had the high resolution original, I could tell definitively whether it was a fake, or not.

This brings us back to the question I asked earlier: if this is indeed the largest wolf ever seen, as it would be at that size and weight, why hasn't it been on the news?

Sure would like to have the original photo to examine.

I don't know a single person that can lift 240 pounds of dead weight like that...

TF

I'd like to think that, when I was younger, I could have done it, and I'm not all that large. Of course, if I ever actually tried it, I probably would never have walked again, and I'd probably still be speaking in a high, squeaky voice from the strain.

Here's a pic i found for reference.
Here's the info on this guy and wolf
I'm 5'10" 185lbs, trapped this wolf back in January and it weighed 126lbs.

After looking at that i guess it's possible but this brings up another thing. Notice in the pic i posted the guys hands aren't even touching. but in the OP picture the guy has locked his hand into his wrist. that would mean that this guy would have to be REALLY tall. I dunno, it's possible it's real, but it just looks awful fishy.

I think the other leg is behind the tail, that's why the line is so defined. I think it's a kid holding it with the man's head photochopped in.

...or it's the beast of Gevaudon

I could be mistaken, but I think his leg can be seen behind the wolf's tail. His pant leg is causing the straight line on the underside of the tail that you mentioned.

I say fake for lack of other information on the intarwebz.

Edit: I doubt the 260lbs. part. As for the picture, I have no clue.

Another thing is that the OP wolf the head seems awfully small in comparison to the body and legs.....

I would have to agree...and if one could, he would most certainly be much bigger than he seems to be.

While I want it to be true, my guess it isnt

I just don't see the leg. Look at where the guy's waist is you can tell from his belt. He would have to have a HUGE stance for their not to be some part of his leg cutting across from the wolf's leg to tail area.

I've lifted metal sculptures that are heavier than that, but I do agree that there is little chance that he'd be lifting it in the stance he is in and actually smiling for the camera. I think that wolf is around the size of the one in alanp's post, myself. Maybe just a bit larger, just not 100lbs+ larger.

Naw, his leg is behind the tail. Brighten up your monitor a bit and you'll see the pattern of his camos there. He's facing a bit to his right, towards the left side of the photo, and leaning back and taking some of the wolf's weight on his knee and quad.

I have seen things that weren't there before, but I don't think this is the correct forum for that discussion. ;) :D

Marcelo, I pulled the pic out and opened it in Photoshop. When I brightened it up a little and increased the size, I could definitely see the guy's other leg behind the tail. No question. The thing is, we don't know how big the guy is for reference. It could be a big guy holding a really, really big wolf, or it could be a small guy holding a normal size wolf. The report in the original post though, had the wolf at 260 pounds, which would be the largest wolf ever recorded.

I just don't know.

I blew it up a bit and i see what you guys are talking about. But if this is the case i'm going to have to say this guy is a a hobbit and he was actually just picking up a wolfcub........

I dont know if it's real or not. But, I think it's kind of shitty, either way. :(
