The big bad wolf...

120 lbs is a good sized wolf. 175 lbs is a giant wolf. 200lbs is a very big mastiff. 240 lb wolf? I'm not buying it. A dogs/wolfs structure is not ideal for carrying this much weight, and a wolf this big would not have the speed and endurance to hunt properly. Just my 2 cents.

I think it's kinda sad, because I like wolves, but I don't know the circumstances.

I dont either. And, if it is predator control.. ok. You do what you've got to do. But, I dont like to see a majestic animal like a wolf killed, either way.

typo, 160 pounds, sound reasonable?

yep, sounds reasonable.

also, he's using his right leg to hold up the weight of that wolfs hind quarters.

I was at a teaching zoo... where they teach people how to work in zoos... and you could get REAL close to the animals there. I got up close to a wolf, and it was very close to being as big as the one in the pic. Those suckers really get pretty damn big.

The one that scared me was the mountain lion. Never got up close to one of those either, and they're pretty freaking big as well.

That wolf definitely huge wolf. I can't say i'm sorry to see it shot though, the wolves have wreaked havoc with the elk herds here in alberta

The guys obviously a steroid junkie and he has chocked the wolf out UFC style !

We do that kinda thing all the time in Canada !!!!

Honestly, I can't get behind something like this. I support hunting, but I'm not a fan of wolf hunting. Call me a hypocrite - I'm ok with it. But I could never feel pride posing beside a huge wolf carcass.

Your milage may vary.

I'd say it may be real, but more like a 120 lb animal. There's no way it's even close to 200 lbs, unless the guy is a midget, and I don't believe he'd be able to make his hands meet like that.

If it's a real picture of a dead wolf then I'm sorry it was killed.

That is a fake to me. from the position of the shoulder, that guy could never get his hands where they are.

Holy crap! The stuff of legends!

Incidentally, as I understand the history of the mythology of werewolves from both Europe and the North America, their actual forms weren't the upright, bipedal monsters invented by Hollywood but really large wolves purported in the pics. It isn't much of a stretch to be inspired by these creatures and make them part of the local lore.

Upon further thought, and after taking a look at my border collie, I think the picture is real.

1. the wolf has its full winter coat, that's a lot of fur
2. If you wet it down, it'd only be 1/3 the size that it appears to be -& explains how the hunter got his arms around it
3. It's only about 120-140lbs, maybe 150 lbs max.

Saturday night Sci-Fi Survival tip #49:

If you think your town has a werewolf problem......move.

It could have been killing his cattle/livestock.

I dont know if it's real or not. But, I think it's kind of shitty, either way. :(

Dude, you don't know what was going on. Wolves aren't exactly always very timid. Hell, if the guy had kids or livestock or pets or something, the thing was gonna have to die. You can't just run them off...

No, you can't just run them off. A healthy wolf running with a pack is one thing. A wolf alone, maybe old, maybe sick, can get desperate and very dangerous.

I am 6'8" tall and weigh 260 pounds. If that picture were really to scale, that thing would have weighed a lot more than 260.

Exactly, even 'yotes are pretty ballsy when they get hungry. That's why we shoot them out on our farm and the local animal control occassionally offers up a bounty for them...
