The BK11 mini chef mod. FINISHED! Pics And It Did Happen!

Hey Granite......

Very snakes, very cool....... Your comment about high speed screw ups reminds me of a favorite Aultzism- "power tools enable you to make mistakes ever so much faster."..... A nice job for certain.......

So true..."to err is human, to screw up royally requires a power tool"... thanks for the kind words and providing all of us with the sideways inspiration and (most importantly) your wonderful knives as a starting point.

That's a great mod, sooner or later I'm going to have to get the courage to mod one of my knives.
Make later sooner and just do it. I've been sitting on the sidelines for about a year now, watching all these great mods unfold before my eyes, done by amateurs and some total newbs....today, I finally decided that the final product was not the most important thing. The process....yeah, that's the thing, solving (and making) problems on the fly, just knowing that even if it doesn't turn out exactly the way you've envisioned it will, it'll still turn out....
Nathan, I waited for a long time, and I think that was a mistake. If you wanna, if you have the itch to do something, then do it. What could possibly happen? At worst, you'll be putting a little more money in Uncle E's pocket to replace what you totally effed up, at best, you'll have a knife that you've mad your own. Somewhere in the median, that broad range of the bell curve, you'll learn something, and still have a sharp piece of steel that you can carry with pride.

Voted for best inspirational speech! going to the garage after dinner to grind something!

Hells yea!!! Looking good Granite! I like this mod a lot. Can't wait to see the completed blade.

Bet that would look sick on a SanMai!

Nice mod!
Looks like one of mine. :D

OK...it's stripped and awaiting some scales:

What could possibly be better than drinking excellent beer and doing knife mods? OK.....besides that.

This is excellent. You're saving me a lot of work. :D

Love it!
Kind of reminds me of a teeny tiny Wustoff.
I like a little belly in my blades.

I know you were looking for one of these to mod, and I almost sent you mine....and then decided if not now, when? And see, still usable - even while undergoing renovations!

The only part that was a little bummer was that due to the cutouts in the tang, I couldn't make the handle curve as sexy as yours, daiz. I wanted to, but was afraid of grinding through the steel...

Nice!
I picked up a used BK11 on ebay last year, so i decided to mod the BK11 i already had.
Oddly it pretty much looks close to one of your drawings (second from the top), only i reduced the bottle opener dimensions a bit as well.

POIDH! (Pics Or It Didn't Happen) I'd love to see it...so please post up some photos.

Looks great!

I'm just a little bit concerned in the structural integrity of the lower part of the middle hole

Thanks! I'm not that worried....it's steel, and I'm not going to be batoning or anything like that with it. The blade's too small to do much more than you'd do with a folder, and they have blades held in place with a pivot....I think (read: hope) it'll be fine for it's intended use.

Oh... Oooooh . Me likey. That's really awesome. Wish I had the skills to pull something like that off. The way I see it, it's a slicker 14 (gripwise) now with the functionality (bottle cap lifter) of an 11. Love the lines!

YES!
....and have a beer. or two.

Or 3 :D

I tapered down the tang on one of my projects and rounded some corners and sharp lines. Then thinned down the convex grind a wee bit.

The modded BK11 still works with the factory sheath, it retains fine theres just more wiggling going on, lol.
I don't baby these so they look kinda used. Obviously i stripped and patina-ed them (apple cider vinegar).
Heres an old pic of what it looked like before i modded the blade-

My camera batteries need to be charged, the best i can do is a flatbed scanner pic. Izula and 2 BK2s-
Nice! I like the black and white ebony (marblewood?) on the Izula. And that modded 11 looks well loved. Thanks for going the extra mile for the "photo" ;).
