The Bowies of the Blade Show - 2008 Edition

JW Randall

Shown here holding a small damascus bowie that is the very definition of the term "elegant".

See, I wasn't kidding:

Jim Walker

Always a must-stop table for me:

John White

I think I must have yakked John's ear right off. What a truly pleasant and engaging person. And what gorgeous knives!

I met John 3 years ago at this very show and was tremendously impressed with the quality of his work. But I am flat out blown away by how much farther he has elevated his craft since then:

Mike Williams

One of the great ambassadors of the forged blade and a nicer guy you couldn't hope to meet. It was a real pleasure spending some time in the company of Mike and his charming wife, Melinda.

If the little damscus hunter didn't find a home, I may have to chase it down.

Thankfully, I didn't forget to take some pictures of the work of Jason Knight - I just forgot where "K" was supposed to go in the alphabet.

Jason's line-up was top 5, IMHO. Here he is holding a terrific fighter:

He also had a pair of hunters with some real fine damascus patterns:

A better look at the fighters, including a very cool subhilt:

An awesome chopper and THE bowie:

Maker, happy collector and Moran award-winning knife:

That's all for now.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to put this thread together, those are some great looking knives!

Dangerous Collector Alert! ;)

That is the now infamous Guido from Roma, pictured with Jason Knight.

He finds and buys DOUBLE AWARD WINNERS (Best Bowie + Moran Award)

Great taste and a fist full of Euros! Watch your back.

Fantastic thread and photos, Roger! Thanks for those of us back home "relaxing". ;)

You should know which one would be my favorite. :D The Andrews with the butt-cap filed to match the contours of the stag. Seeing that makes an anal-retentive like me smile. :)

Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you Roger for taking the time and efforts to put this all together! It really means a lot to me, since I could not attend Blade this year!

Excellent look at my favorite style of knife. Thanks Roger, for both the report and the listing of new MS and JS.

Yes, thank you for that great report.

What did you think of pricing this year?

Roger, thanks for the GREAT field report ... it really made me live again the madness of this weekend, as well as showing me a few things I did not know that I had missed:D.

Peter, that really made me LOL... and I think that we all know that you're in a class of your own when it comes to scouting knives and makers;)!

Guido

Roger, great job pulling this together. It was a pleasure to meet you and unfortunate that it was so brief. I wanted to see the knife you made with Dan but forgot entirely to ask you about it.

Wrong thread, sorry Roger :o My head is still messed up.

Was very good seeing you again! And thanks for the great report

High philanthropy, Roger, for those of us living on the wrong side of the tracks ruefully witnessing the homicide of cash flow by $4 gas.
