The Bowies of the Blade Show - 2008 Edition

Thanks for sharing some of the show with us! Well done!

Wow, Roger!
You must have had an awesome time! Your photo documentary sure makes it look that way- everyone has a warm, sincere smile on their face. I'll bet they were really happy to meet you in person.
This forum is a great way for people to get a sense of one another, but nothing beats the real thing!
You have given me all the motivation I need to get to next year's show.

Thank you very much!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Not much to add, just a crusty old Bowie by Michael Conner, MS that I was able to rescue.

And a crusty old knife collector who was left to his own devices.

Yikes. He looks like the terminator with those red spots in the center of his eyes.

You have obviously never seen a pissed off Orthodox Rabbi!:D

Peter, I'm surprised that your camera still works.

Great, great pix, Roger.....as we spoke about it, if it is OK with you, I will either attach my show review to this thread, or add to it, later....bottom line, great show!

Do you have a preference?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Roger,
Great thread and pictures. I see a ton of stuff on this thread that I missed at the show.
It was nice to meet you in person.

STeven, you are more than welcome to add your review here and I would be pleased to have you do so, but I think a lot of people who look forward to your unique and engaging show reports might miss it if it were buried on page 3 or 4 of this thread.

How about you start a new thread and put in a link to this one so people can find related pics? I will likewise add a link in this thread to your review.

Joss - on the whole I found pricing to be pretty good (within the limited field of these types of knives). Most of the time when I queried price, the answer was right where I thought it should be - and in a good many cases, below that. There were a few examples of ambitious pricing - but in at least half of those cases the knives sold well, so others clearly had a different view.

The buyer at this show was certainly spoiled for choice. I am very pleased with my purchases, but could have spent my money on completely different knives and been just as happy. That certainly isn't the case at every show. There are many I left behind that I would happily have bought given more funds - even excluding Peter's, Guido's, Scott's, Riad's and Jon's impressive haulage.

Thanks to all for your comments.

Roger

PS - Jim - very nice to have met you and so many other forumites as well.

PPS - I think Gill must be psychic or something - we are walking from point A to point B and breezing past a dealer table with a bunch of knives in a case all but obscured by reflections from the show lights. Peter hangs a right turn so crisp that I miss it completely and temporarily think he has simply disappeared. I look back to see him pointing insistently at something buried in the back of the case and that's how long it took to score that Connor bowie. He's either psychic or part bloodhound - one of the two.

Wonderful thoughts and images to punctuate. This was about as much of the show floor as I was able to enjoy! (Roger, as you know I was working steadily.)

Thanks for taking the time to post. Really cool. Susan enjoyed every photo and comment also! :)

Working steadily is an understatement. I know we will all enjoy the fruits of your labors. Susan is utterly charming - it was a pleasure spending time with you both.

Wow Roger!!! This is awesome.... thanks so much for putting all the time and work into this. I don't know how you managed to get pics of makers, collectors, and knives all while the rush is on... THANK YOU SO MUCH for the effort.

It makes it much easier to swallow not getting to go when there is a thread like this to look through.

THANKS!!! :D

Great pics! It adds a personal touch seeing these talented makers with their blades. Wish I could have been there.

And you will be there next year to test for MS, right Nick?:D

Roger, this was truly an outstanding set of Blade Show photos, except for that one photo....you know which one. :D

Thank you.

Roger,

Thanks for the show reprise, and especially for the pics. Seem to have met more folks this show than ever, and had more fun talks. "Faces with names" is a great game.

See you again soon,

John

You were meant to write for this field, Roger... this thread exemplifies this perfectly.

...when's the next get-together?
