The Buck 100 Series Appreciation/Photo Thread

My new procurement for my collection 1973 BUCK 121 INVERTED 3 LINE TANG STAMP "FISHERMAN" Its definetly as thin as a fillet knife....

TAH, actaully no......LOL this blade is definetly not thick enough steel qauge. This knife "arrived today" gave it a spritz, with some FLITZ and put the knife on my cloth buffers, then [dosed] the sheath with some black saddle soap. The leather inside was just starting to dry out inside a bit...just to stop future drying out an cracking. But Sheath is in great shape button soldi black on the belt loop. Then I did a quick photo shoot.....

I know now it did have a trailing point after saw this one in my hand, an the number #5 was always in the back of my head and in my gut. I believe now it was definetly a 105 & I just of been mistaken about the length which threw me off course in selecting the right one that I had....... :) Th eone I had was allot heavier gauge steel.....thicker! this 121 is a fillet knife no wonder they refer to it as the FISHERMAN........
I swear pathfinder also came to my mind when trying to remember back when people use to talk about what a nice knife it was....when camping & fishing.

This is not bad start for my 100's collection though.....I like it! and thank you everyone for trying to help me nail down the right model.......Much appreciated! seriously

Well, it's a beautiful knife, Mule. You did a nice job cleaning it up. Did you use Flitz on the handle too? Also, how thick is the blade? My 70s 105 is exactly 1/8" thick.

Oooh thanks for that info! TAH, 1/8 sounds about right......the model 121 with a quick hit on my calipers is 0.320 - 0.330 [inches] ruffly thick. I say that because I'm not use to digital calipers tougher to use I think, the numbers jump around allot do to its sensitivity....LOL

Yes of course your right! but it might as well be, when I compare the knife I remember in my mind from the past.....LOL it was allot heavier than this 121, I can bend the blade of the 121 with out much effort with my thumb! with not much push its very springy. The knife I had was definetly heavier steel, even the handle of the 121 seems wicked light! so I know most likely its because the 121 blade is not heavy as the one I had.

Interesting. If the knife you remember from your youth was a lot heavier than your new 121 at 5/16" thick, I don't see how your old knife could have been a 105, which is typically thinner. You're just going to have to buy them all and get to the bottom of this mystery. :D

The blade is slightly over 5/16" thick? That doesn't seem like a thin fillet blade.
Now, wait a minute gents. That would make it over a 1/4" thick... Buck didn't make any of the 100 series knives that thick. Somethings not right. Mine is mostly 1/16" thick in places.
Slightly more at others but mostly under 1/8". ? DM

My early 105's are only 1/8" thick. So, about double that of the 121. DM

I agree, David. Perhaps Mule misread the calipers in the excitement of receiving his new knife. I know I get all goofy whenever a new knife arrives at my house. :D

Just measured the model 121 "Fisherman" with a ruler its 1-32nd of a inch thick......at the spine. Its a fillet knife...LOL

LOL I told you don't like digital calipers the numbers jump around to much.....on the tang/makers mark 0.057. to 0.058 inches.

I woke up this morning an was surfing for a 105 under BUCK KNIVES and saw scantly clothed women trying to sell her Buck 119 LMAO! the knife & sheath looks bigger than her...LOL

Thanks DM, all I know is the blade for the 121 is not the blade I remember the one I had was definitely heavier gauge steel......so I'm thinking it was a 105.....

No model, this girl was her in her house, doing [selfies] I thought I was on a "social media" site, buts its here most peoples buy & sell. Not even one BID! My first opinion when seeing the photos is this legite? or I don't think I trust this offering for the Knife, like it would never arrive if I bought it.....but on the other hand shes selling Harley Davidson gear too.

DM, So I'm gonna pcick up a 105, now the red or black micarta spacers you said moved to #1 at the top? and #1 at the bottom for the more recently made ones....I want a classic late 60's or early 70's model.....and saty away from the more recent ones....the older ones are pricey for sure. Dm is there any available dating for 100's on those micarta spacer varations?
