My chopping game leaves a lot to be desired (I'm no competition level chopper) but I've been experimenting with 2x4s as I want to do some comparisons down the road using some form of relatively repeatable media for a chop-off.
If you've never tried it before, I encourage you to give it a go sometime. Much harder than I expected. There's a lot more technique involved than just swinging away like a caveman if you're aiming to chop it in half in as few swings as possible!
In the Choppasaurus release thread there was a video posted where it was like 5 chops to get through the 2x4. I'm nowhere near that using the Choppasaurus so far, still practicing, but this MOAB is getting close!
I can only imagine what's achievable with this thing once I get my skill and strength up and also put a proper high performance edge on it. Can it cleave a 2x4 in twain in only 2 chops?
Somebody somewhere has probably done it. Post it up if you have!
For me, for now, with a far from ideal chopping set up and only the stock edge, I managed to get nearly half way through on 2 chops, but then it took another 6 or so to get the rest of the way through. Lack of accuracy and skill (and again, poor set up) are mostly to blame.

More to come later this year I hope as I play around more.![]()
Challenge accepted! LolMan. all you HOGs and your MOAB's... Wish I had a box full!
AND..BTW, only the Chuckette' will clear a 2x4 sideways in 2 lol!
Have you seen the Chuckette?Challenge accepted! Lol
I will give it my best and report back!
Heck yes! The two handed beast! Big D has the video of it on his YT channel. Very cool!Have you seen the Chuckette?![]()

LOL, it works with just one hand too.Heck yes! The two handed beast! Big D has the video of it on his YT channel. Very cool!
But yes, the Chuckette has a serious size advantage giving it a big leg up.
Nevertheless, I'm always up for a challenge and expect to fall short but I will give it my all and believe there's a few ways to really unlock all the potential the MOAB has. Win, lose, or draw, it's gonna be fun!
There is one other knife of similar size to the MOAB which I've seen accomplish this (a true knife, as in a one-handed knife, not a two handed sword or something along those lines) and prior to this thread, I was inspired to see if I could duplicate that.
So I'm game to pull out all the stops and see what I can accomplish.
