The Case Barlow is BACK

I think I'm batting 1.000

I was waffling about buying one of those cv sawcuts, so a friend of mine ordered an extra, and I'll get it from him after payday. I'll let him chose the best one, and if mine has weird longways sawcuts maybe I'll just take a checkering file to it.

I felt that I should buy one, just to encourage Case to offer more classic patterns in cv steel - done properly with bolster stamp and no shield.
Doin' my part! ;)

So now, here is the on side of the horse.LooKs good but there appears to be a superficial crack running into a pin . It appears black and barely catches a thumb nail. I doubt that it is going to be a problem but then again, I know it's there. Hello QC
Be right back, had a picture upload problem.

Looks like you got a good one! Nice square end treatment on the covers. That crack looks (to me) like it was a natural occurrence in the bone before it wound up on a knife, the way it seems to have drank (drunk?) up the dye. So likely not a quality issue. Character!

That's why I snagged one

Well folks mine arrived and disappointed with this one so it’s going back . Smooth transitions on the bolsters , decent walk and talk . Main blade centered but the secondary is rubbing pretty good and off center to we’re it’s laying completely agains the other side . There’s a hole on the pile side of the bone . It’s got a nice color although it does have the criss cross cut going different directions on each side . I could live with that and maybe a few of the issues but when you put them all together it’s a disappointment in my book . Normally I ask my dealer to check my knives out and they always send me a great example but to no fault of there’s I forgot to ask on this one and hoped I got lucky but negative on that lol . Definitely not my dealers fault but regardless it’s going back and I’ll give it one more try for another hoping they can pick me out a nice one .

Thanks my Friend! For sure I would of kept it if it wasn’t for the pen blade laying against the liner .I know it’s hit or miss with case but this was a miss no doubt .
I was tempted to keep it anyway but after thinking about it for a “second” I thought naw lol :D

No doubt and I’m really bummed:(
The covers do look really nice even with the hole near the bolster on the pile side it’s starting to grow on me it has character. But the pen blade just killed it for me . I do realize you’ll get a little blade rub sometimes if your not careful how you open the blades up but when it’s darn near if not laying against the liner your pretty much dead in the water especially when the nail nick is on the opposite side of were it’s rubbing .
The rub marks you see in the picture was just opening it twice and very carefully.

Dog gone.I like those covers Factor. The hole gives it sort of a character brand. That's to bad about the rub though but is there a way that you can tweak it? Mine has just a hint of rub on the pen with one tiny scratch but it appears that it may have been caused during assembly because I think mine are pretty well centered upon real close examination. Anyhow, good luck on the next time around if you go that route.

I’m not to well versed on centering a blade but I’m guessing you could try tweaking it back in the other direction with the risk of causing excessive blade wobble and or tweaking the blade . Then maybe trying to carefully pinch the bolsters without damaging the bolsters to tighten the blade back up .
Decided to just return it and it’s all boxed up ready to drop off at the post office .
Just waiting on a RMA number

It is pretty cool that Case is putting out many different versions of the Barlow pattern, allowing options that are suitable to carry in different situations. I have always preferred the look of this pattern with two blades and some patina, but I find that I am carrying and using the stainless single blade in antique bone every day. It just disappears in my pocket until needed, but has a good sized handle and people friendly blade shape. I have also come to appreciate the trusharp stainless a lot this year, spending more time outdoors daily, and having to eat on the fly. I am going to get a brown sawcut two blade in CV for when the weather turns cooler, but am very pleased with the little single blade in stainless. A real all around pleasure to use!
