Afternoon fellas!
Well, fishing was a bust today. Not because of the fish, but because of the boy, lol! For some reason his attention span was only about 2 seconds long and he forgot to put his listening ears on... needless to say, he whined so bad he even started himself crying! Just you wait Daniel, it's gonna happen to you too....
Did catch a few 'gills though. Was a bit tough because the tides are huge today, and it was ebbing quite hard, add in about 12 knots of wind and float fishing becomes real difficult. Located a school of small gills right under a yellow river Lilly on the bank, all little guys, but fun anyways. Zyler is now just playing in his room like nothing happened today, lol!
Time for a splash of bourbon.
I like cane poles, they're very nice to cast if designed properly! I have a couple cane fly rods and they sure do have a different feel to them! I also have an old fiberglass fly rod I've been thinking of making into a jigging rod for bluegill. The extra length (it's 8'6") helps get out over brushy banks.
Did some rod repair last night too, my very first custom rod my great uncle built for me back in the 90's had the bottom ferrule come loose. So I had to strip the wrapping off, rewrap and finish it. Came out ok, didn't use my dad's rod cradle, just a cardboard box with V notches cut into it. Ran the thread through a heavy book for thread tension and did a temporary sealer coat with clear nail polish. It's easier to remove later on when I want to really do it right.
Also got an order for a knife last night. Should be easy enough to do how he wants it. Gonna be fun!
Making it great!
