The Cinguedea, One of the Most Effective Personal Weapons Of All Time

I don't know. J W Bensinger J W Bensinger posted some info that looked very convincing that more than one Fairbairn combat knife was based on SE Asian blades.
I've heard the Welsh Fusiliers connection as well, though a smatchet is pretty much a western hilted barong. The post WW2 Cobra is pretty much a ginunting

The Cinquedea vs. the Rapier?

Some have argued that the cinquedea preceded and was directly responsible for the evolution of the rapier. It was an early rennasaince sword intended primarily for civilian carry.

From what l read, Fairbairn was in Asia or had just returned from East Asia when the smatchet was designed, so I bet he'd been impressed by some of the practical yet weaponly blades he saw while there.

Of course carrying a sword is impractical ....... but having one in your truck isn’t :)

As for a Mora working as well as a sword in actually application ..... you’ve obviously never played with a good sword :)

Joe, what sword is that?

Unsanitised for your benefit. Warning- blood.

That was fascinating!

Was that one of those feral hogs? Do you intend to hunt them with a knife, or was that one a target of opportunity?

I've heard of folks hunting hogs using only knives, but they say the big ones can be pretty dangerous that close. You handled him very well, and your dogs did a great job holding him for you.
