soc_monki; thats why i sold mine i had both of them, its too damn thick for slicing Its the number 1 blade that can so use a Tom Krein regrind! I replaced it with the gunsite folder; AUS10,much better thinner blade for slicing and the handles arent so blocky they are much more rounded .

The Cold Steel SR1 and SR1 Lite are the toughest and strongest folding knives in the world. I mean, these things are insane! With the sale of Cold Steel to another company, one can only hope that Lynn Thompson continues to be a strong influence. I've got the SR1 Lite, and it's just an utter beast, and I got for around 60 bucks!

A fixed blade is obviously preferable for a survival knife, but SR1/SR1 Lite would be maybe the top folding knife option as a survival knife in the world today. But, hey, don't take my word for how tough and strong they are. See for yourself...

I agree wholeheartedly. The Cold Steel Voyager in AUS-10A is the best Cold Steel Voyager in AUS-10A you can buy.

Not that one would ever need the additional toughness, but I'd imagine an all Ti custom Demko AD10 or 4Max in 3V would be bout as tough as it gets.

I was wondering what Lynn Thompson would do after he sold CS. I think I am figuring it out.
LOL........I've been thinking the same thing......

No need to worry about Thompson sneakily making this thread, he started a new company called never unarmed .Hes gonna sell balis switchblades and the tomohawks and blowguns he kept before selling the co. He has a short video out on it....

Much as I love Cold Steel , had to give the SR1 folders a pass . :(

The blade is modeled after the SRK fixed , a survival knife for extreme abuse , prying etc . So, thick grind , very strong point and edge , but not a good slicer .

If I need that kind of knife , I want the fixed blade version . I still have my old "Carbon V" . Great knife for it's purpose .

For me , the 4 Max , AD10 and other models are plenty strong enough and better at slicing and generally more useful .
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

But steel is stronger than titanium... so I guess if you want additional toughness make it in stainless steel.

Spears and polearms , too . Probably other goodies .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Is there any other kind of hyperbole, if I recall correctly it means “gross exaggeration”?

It can actually be both. The OP seems to have made a habit of using hyperbole on multiple occasions/threads now, and any time more than zero when talking about Cold Steel in that fashion is "excessive", in my opinion. Also, my opinion is the best, most well reasoned, and most objective on the market today. In the world.

LOL!! No, the AUS10 Voyager is still "THE BEST" knife you can buy for "50 bucks". It's a better all around knife because it's lighter and easier to carry, but "toughest" and "strongest" are different terms that you apparently don't comprehend the meaning of. You might benefit from a remedial reading comprehension course. Ha ha! ;)

A winky smile doesn't make that less of an insult, IMHO. That passive-aggressive joking-not-joking schtick will wear thin on people's nerves super fast. Ha ha! ;)

The verbiage and style reminds me someone given the plank not too long ago, but maybe that's just a Cold Steel thing. Maybe I'm just grouchy ;)

I will say that they are impressive when it comes to lock strength, but it's kind of a moot point for me. Cold Steel hangs its hat on the ridiculous, and that's OK. It's like saying that I bought a car marketed that it can be driven off a 75' cliff and it won't burst into flames, so it must be the best car in the world. Meanwhile, I'm driving on the roads of glacier-flat Indiana with absolutely no reason to fear driving off a 75' cliff. I might get more out of a car that handles better or gets better gas mileage, but that's not what I have. I have the BEST car because I can drive it off a 75' cliff and not burst into flames.

I have no need of a folding knife that holds up to such tests when nothing else about the knife does it for me. Short of several of my ZTs failing the most paltry of noodle-strength spine whack tests, I have no real dog in the fight of how much engineering went into making a folding knife not fold. Aesthetically the CS line doesn't do it for me.

why didnt he name the new company AlwaysArmed instead of NeverUnarmed

also i have the sr1 lite and at 6.3 oz its pretty big and heavy, the 4max is over 10 oz so if you want something big and solid but are worried about weight the sr1 might be better in that aspect.

also i wanted to add that i feel the rajah 3 folder is one of the most underrated rated knives around, its a very solid folder with a great design that is very affordable and reliable, its kind of like a mini spartan
