The Contenders...

The SH-E didn't do anything for me a couple of years ago. I just might have to try out one of those bad boys again.

Do it !

It is much lighter and are around .23''-.26" thick,
Makes a great all around medium sized multi purpose blade.
Also Im looking forward to get my FSH s. I'll make one a user.. #67 and #68 can't wait!
I'll never sell this one..

Finally, a Comparison (what was originally asked for!!):

My thoughts...

So, both of these were tested with about the same amount of chops. While both impressively dug in equally as great, I felt I had a little more control with the ChopWeiler over the Old School RatWeiler. Both are beasts, but if I had to choose one over the other, it would be VERY tough.

*Added, the control of the ChopWeiler sort of blows away my control concerns of the Old School RatWeiler I posted earlier since the handle profiles are similar. I think both, with a littl handle modification in the back half as mentioned earlier too, may make these even better for my smaller hands. More thoughts and talks with Ban will result!

Control - ChopWeiler
Depth of each Chop - RatWeiler
Looks - RatWeiler
Comfort - Dead even

I'll be keeping both. The RatWeiler may get a Ban Treatment next month and I will retest it afterwards. Mods will include a handle profile change (for my smaller hands) and new profiling, but we'll see. I may do two rounds. Handle changes first, test... Blade Profile changes second, test...

Onto the HOGFSH!!

Just got this back from Garth at Busse Combat with a new handles:

After about 25 chops or so:

Comparing against the FBMs that also received about 25 chops:

My take...

Good God!! This thing is a powerhouse!! It got through about 3/4s the way through the 2x4 with about the same amount of chops that the FBMs were able to chop through the 2x4s. Power was great, control was great. This thing had the wood chips flying! Downside, this thing is heavier than the WFBM. So of the three BIG blades I tested, the FBM LE, the WFBM and the HOGFSH, for sheer chopping, I would pick the WFBM. If other duties were required outside of chopping, the HOGFSH would reign supreme!

Dang... First Garth makes her look beautiful, then she beats the crap out of some wood...

Also, one last note... When I was chopping with ALL of these blades, the chops were one right after another. No pauses in between to pry or to examine. Just chopping until I got to the desired counts...

Yeah sure...We all know you were drinkin in between each swing.;)

Are you going to send the M6 back to SR? It seems there may be a heat treat issue with that one. I need to go chop with mine and make sure it is ok now.
I did send the M6 to Eric to have it eye-balled... Basically the failure looks to be the mods that Gossman knives put on it. Not to bust his work at all. This knife isn't built for serious chopping duties and the re-profiling done to it may have weakened it depending on how it was done.

The Swamp Rat shop is going to re-profile it for me. Which I think is WAY FRIGGIN' COOL of Eric since this thing was modified by another shop. Chopping will not be in it's future, but it will be a great user regardless.

BIG PROPS to Eric and Swamp Rat. Going way beyond IMHO. :D

Thanks for the update. The HOGFSH is a beast and heavier than a CGFBM.

As expected...I didn't think that there would be much of a performance difference between the RW and CW.

This has really been a good head-to-head. Great job Phil!!! Love the HOGFSH!!!!!

 I must be sleepin' at the wheel!!!

I completely missed this thread! :o

This is GREAT!!! I Really like all the comparisons!

Thanks for sharing this Jeepnut!

Wake up and smell the coffee buddy :p

I've thought about similar 2x4 testing with my choppers in the past. Glad to see someone doing it.

First off you did an awesome job here brutha! :D However, I really am starting to dislike this thread. :(

Why? Because now I want an Old School Ratweiler, a Chopweiler, and a HOGFSH. ;)

I think I have found my perfect fit in a mid sized blade in the NO-E. Done and done.

So if I am looking for chopping power I want to go serious. It looks like the Weilers and the Mistresses and the HOGFSH all fit the bill. Being a city boy and all I think my modded FFBM will more than cover all my knife chopping needs for life. This thread just confirms it is a good choice.

Props to Eric and the Swamp for helping you out with the Rat. ;)

Again, super job. Do you mind if I put a link on our blog to this thread? I think people will get a lot out of it. :)
